The BEABA Cube comes with a tabletop, tray insert, cushion, footrest and safety straps. The telescopic legs are removable and the chair can be dissembled into a compact ‘cube’ for travelling – although this isn’t as quick and easy as I’d hoped.
What we love
The BEABA Cube’s modern look and pink and lime colourway really suit our kitchen. We don’t have loads of space to store it away so it’s been a permanent feature in our kitchen for the past five months - and I’ve been totally happy to look at it every day.
Zoe, 11 months, also seems extremely comfortable in it, which is vital.
And it’s brilliantly easy to clean. The seat doesn’t have too many awkward nooks and crannies and wipes clean easily. The tabletop (or tray) comes off completely and is dishwasher safe – ideal after Zoe’s been squishing strawberries all over it. And the fabric cover of the cushion is fairly easy to wipe clean after minor spills (although it’s not waterproof).
The removable safety straps also scrub up well and have been through our washing machine lots of times without any trouble.
The BEABA Cube is super lightweight and easy to move around - however, it’s so light that even Zoe can shift it. Her latest trick is using it as a sliding Zimmer frame as she totters around the kitchen…
What to watch out for
Packing the BEABA Cube away fully for travelling isn’t easy. Although the telescopic legs come off and collapse down ok individually, to make them fit under the seat in ‘cube’ travel mode you need to remove the feet – and this is tricky. So instead, I tend just to take the legs off and pack them loose in the boot of the car.
Also some of the accessories aren’t that practical. From 10 months, Zoe’s been able to unclip the tabletop, which is really annoying when I’m feeding her. I also worry that it’s a bit of a safety hazard.
I found the coloured tray insert pretty useless, too. From about 7 months, Zoe was able to lift it off and drop it on the floor.
Annoyingly, the seat cushion cover isn’t waterproof either. And if you decide to wash it, beware: although the instructions allege that it’s machine-washable at 30 degrees, when I washed ours the foam inside bunched up and I haven’t been able to use it since.
I still love my Cube. But without these add-on extras, I can’t help wondering if I might as well have bought Ikea’s Antilop highchair (£10.99, plus tray £4) as it’s not a million miles away from the stripped-down Cube.
Who is the BEABA Cube best for?
Mums looking for a cool and colourful bit of kit.
The BEABA Cube is funky, lightweight, easy to use and to clean. But it’s a fiddle to dissemble fully for travelling - and if you can live without the colourful accessories, you might want to save your pennies and look at another option.
