Pros

  • Looks fantastic, feels sturdy, seat is comfy and can face both ways

Cons

  • Bulky, even when folded, expensive

If you’re looking for the 21st century equivalent of an old-style, traditional baby pram, then the Quinny Buzz 3 is for you. Buy the full range of accessories, and it does everything you’d want a pushchair to do, as long as you’re prepared to find room for it in your car and your home!

The Buzz’s standout special feature is the pneumatic unfold mechanism. Also, the chassis can work with a seat, carrycot or car seat, and has rear or forward facing options. If you don’t like the 3-wheeler look, there’s also a Buzz 4 available with two front wheels.

What we love

You can pop the rear wheels off pretty easily to get the Quinny Buzz into a small boot – I don’t have any trouble with my Polo, although I have had to take the back shelf out.

The brake, a small pedal on the back bar, is excellent and very easy to use.

It’s amazingly plush and comfy, and my baby seemed really happy to snuggle down in the seat and have a snooze. It now comes with a choice of two seat units, one for smaller babies and one for larger babies, which really adds to its value and makes it very cosy for your tiny baby.

What I really loved was the look – I got lots of envious glances! It’s also brilliant that the seat faces both ways, as my baby loves facing me and chatting.

The chunky rear tyres make it great over grass and on muddy ground, although it’s not quite ‘all-terrain’ as the small front wheel can’t cope with rocks! The width of the back wheels occasionally makes it a bit tricky in shops, but it’s very manoeuvrable, and the handle is nicely padded and comfy to push.

What to watch out for

While I found this fantastic – it literally springs to life – it’s pretty tough to fold. My hands are small so holding down the buttons and pushing/pulling at the same time is a tricky manoeuvre. My first outing with my baby ended with me in tears in a supermarket car park as I couldn’t get it down to get back in the car!

You also have to be very careful to fasten it with the clip when it’s folded or it will unfold itself in the boot of your car while you’re driving along. I made this mistake and it gave me such a shock I nearly drove off the road.

It’s fairly enormous, but no one who’s buying the Buzz is expecting a lightweight buggy.

What I can’t understand is why it doesn’t come with a shopping basket. I can see how this might disturb the smooth lines, but given that everyone who owns a Buzz ends up buying one anyway, why don’t they just give in and put one on it?

A downside of the Quinny Buzz is that it’s not free standing when folded, so it’s tricky to store in your home.

It’s not a cheap option, and you’ll have to spend more money to get everything (like a shopping basket). Because of the unusual curved shape of the back bar, you can’t fit a buggy board to it – something to watch out for if you have a toddler.

Who is the Quinny Buzz best for?

Trendy mums who walk a lot.

MadeForMums verdict

This buggy’s great if you walk a lot – it’s comfy for your child, easy to push, and the wheels are big and manoeuvrable. It’s bulky to get into your car boot, and you may even have to take the wheels off to do so. If you don’t mind spending money on extras, such as the carrycot, you’ll end up with a pram that’s perfect for newborns, and will still look great when your child is a toddler.
