Cons

  • Expensive

Huggies Pull Up training pants are designed to help you through that awkward potty training phase. They’re easy to use, got a great design and help to teach your toddler about potty training. They combine freedom of movement with no gapping bits, so leaks aren't a problem.

The idea of pull ups is to bridge that transition between nappies and using the toilet. They pull up and down like real pants but have a level of absorbency to protect your child from messy accidents but not as absorbent as a nappy so they start to recognise when they are wet and make them uncomfortable enough to discourage them from using it rather than the toilet.

My nephew, Max is nearly 2 and has reached that stage where he tells you when he has weed and seems more interested in the toilet rather than keeping his nappy on. So it seemed the perfect time to introduce pull ups. Max is my twin sister’s youngest son and is desperate to be a big boy like his big brother Charlie, so he was very excited about the ‘big boy’ pants we had for him.

What we love

Huggies Pull Ups for boys has a great Lightening McQueen design, which was immediately a winner with Max. They were very easy to pull up and Max seemed happy and comfortable toddling around in his new pants.

The fit seemed comfy with room for him to move around freely without gaps for leaks.
The absorbency of the pull ups is not designed to hold in wee all day, but I was still impressed with how protected he was even when he had done a wee. Huggies Pull Ups have a design in pale blue on the front of them which fades when wet, which is a great way to know when he has weed as they are not designed to cope like a nappy and would leak if left.

I was also impressed with the robustness of them as even when Max took a dip in the paddling pool, the pull up survived and didn’t get too heavy when wet. Although strong, it was still nice and easy to rip the sides to get it off when needed.
They were still nice and easy for him to get down himself when it was time to use the potty.

What to watch out for

When you start potty training, pull ups do work out an expensive option as initially you can go through as many, if not more, than you do nappies. Huggies Pull Ups will set you back £4.98 (bought at Sainsburys) for 14.

Who are Huggies Pull Ups best for?

Mums who want a reliable name they can trust to make the transition from nappies nice and easy for their toddler.

MadeForMums verdict

Huggies Pull Ups are comfortable and fun for your toddler and straight-forward and easy to use for you. They are expensive but are a reliable disposable training pant to start them on the way to using the toilet.
