A spokeswoman said: "Jamie Lomas and Kym Marsh are delighted to announce that they are the proud parents of a baby girl, Polly Lomas. "Polly was born on Wednesday evening weighing 4lb 1oz. Mum and baby are doing well."

Born early The joyful news comes after Kym was forced to start her maternity leave from the TV soap early after succumbing to the flu.

Having previously suffered problems with her cervix, Kym, who plays Michelle Connor in the soap, was confined to bed rest while at home. She has said of the pregnancy: "It's been really difficult. I have been diagnosed with an incompetent cervix, which is when your cervix is too weak to stay closed during pregnancy due to the extra weight of the baby. It can cause premature birth or late miscarriage.

"This time around I was a high-risk patient and I've been monitored closely.
