Follow on milk?

Posted: 21/08/2011 at 04:08
Just an update from me = I thought I would try swapping to follow on milk to see if it makes any difference.

It certainly seems a lot thinner that Number 1 milk but I would imagine that this is to not fill the babies so much so plenty of room for solids.

Also (unfortuntely in some ways) I am still getting 2 - 3 dirty nappies a day so doesnt seem to have caused constipation. Although LO does strain a little more I would imagine this is down to getting used to more firm poos!

I would have swapped back if it had caused any prob but as they are same price as well I think I will stick to this now.

Cheers

Feeding schedule.

Hiya

No that is useful so thank you - It gives me an idea. She would normally be having a feed in the night as has been waking for one but i have started a dream feed at about 11:30 which is seeing her thro til morning.

I have reduced her milk feeds now to see if this helps in the day and she wants food as well as milk - I was giving 7oz but reduced to 5 now to see if it helps. Last one has been 8oz now tho,

cheers again

Hi all

Wondering if you could share your feeding schedules with me as I am having problems getting all of my LOs milk feeds in.

Lo is 6 months and has been weaning for 2 weeks. She likes her food, although has recently decided that she prefers jars to my own made (think Ill have to make mine more interesting!!)

Anyway I find that if I give her a milk feed when she wakes she doesnt want brekie until late meaning whole day is pushed forward. eg lunch at 2 and evening meal at 6 meaning she is sleepy before last milk feed so potentially misses out on it.

If I give her breakie when she wakes, she doesnt want her milk mid morning so is missing milk there.

Also more often than not she is not interested in mid afternoon feed so misses that too.

I have tried giving her milk with her food but she only takes about 1oz. So i am really struggling getting the 21oz recommended into her day.

I have read that feeding should be:

Early morning: Milk
Breakfast: Food
Mid Morning: Milk
Lunch: Food
Mid Afternoon Milk
Tea: food
Bedtime: Milk.

My LO has only ever had 5 feeds a day anyway so really struggling to get all of this in.

Can you help? What do you do with your LOs?

Thanks Cx

Sorry I can't help but just wanted to add that I am asking myself the same question. I cant really find an answer anywhere.
Hope someone replies as it has been like a ghost town on here recently.

Strange things our babies do!

Thought I would find out if anyone else is experiencing our babies doing odd things? My LO has some odd habits and in the back of mind I was thinking if they were normal. I have put my mind at rest now by goggling it but thought we could share incase it helps anyone else.
My LO:
- lifts her legs and slams them down on the bottom of the cot
- Bangs one leg down time and time again when she is in her bouncer, on the floor or on the changing mat. Always her straight left leg and ooo = it sounds like it hurts!
- Takes a deep breathe when sleeping then stop breathing before taking another breath!
- Strokes the side of her head when trying to get to sleep - Meaning less hair on one side!!
- Takes hold of our finger when feeding a bottle then pulls the bottle in and out of her mouth when she feels like
- Goes to sleep with one eye half open!!
- Squeeks if something is too cold or the wind blows on her!
- refuses all teethers as finds her hand better even tho that must hurt too

Anything your LOs do that you find odd or amussing?

Stopping weaning!

thanks Ladies for your comments - Put LO back on Formula only and she has definately had a mood improvement. She is still arguing about going for Naps tho but have also put bedtime routine in so helping her in the night.

Must say tho - she hasnt been sick since putting her back on milk only so has obviously helped her poor belly.

Thanks all

which formula?

Yeah Ive used Aptamil too - When i was in the hospital over night after my LO was born that is what they offered to give her to top her up because she was really hungry. They said it was close to Breast milk.

I used it for evening feed and BF in the day and she was happy to take the both so it worked for us. The Cartons of it are fab too for emergencies.

Good luck.

Hi all

I used to post in BIF 2011 but hardly anyone posts there now and my baby was actually born on Mar 1st so hope you dont mind me crashing here

Anyone else who has started weaning yet found that their baby has gone really out of sorts. My LO has stopped wanting feeds, she is grumpy, wont sleep - hates going for naps and was up til 10:30 last night as would not go to sleep. It is a complete change in behaviour for her. I have tried her with banana, Porridge, baby rice and Cauliflower cheese (all jars) so it is not like it is a certain food. Sometimes she will eagerly take it and other times she is not bothered

Have been trying for a week now but am honestly thinking about giving up and waiting until she is a bit older (she is only 16 weeks). i feel a bit guilty now as it was kind of a buzz to see what she thought of different tastes. Also if she is not ready she isnt going to be bothered if I stop is she?

Any thoughts or anyone found similar?

As an update for you - Megan was fine once she went to sleep last night. We didnt have to give any more Calpol.
As for this morning, she is playing happy as larry under the play gym. Not phased at all so all is well!

Hope this reassures you
