Plum weaning pouches Q

Posted: 08/01/2011 at 16:10
I'd try and see how she goes.

My girls were good with lumps from quite early on and I always found the bought baby foods of the correct age (and sometimes the next stage up) were much smoother than the food I used to make them. Plum and Ellas's Kitchen were so useful when we were out and about but I do agree they were much less lumpy than the meals I used to make. From what I remember, the Ella's kitchen stage 3 were quite a bit lumpier than the Plum pots but they were both still quite sloppy and lumps were very soft x

If it makes you feel any better, my girls are 20 months and are still not at ease with the in-laws. They are getting better each visit but are still not the same with them as they are at home or with my family.
The sole reason for this is that they don't see enough of them. We try and go over there once a month but the in laws haven't been to ours since May (they live 1.5 hours drive away).

I'd tell your in-laws that LO will get better as she gets older and is more aware and has a better memory but also that they need to make the effort to see her more (if that's what you want of course!)

The girls dropped to 1 nap in August so they were 15 months. The only way i knew they were ready to drop their morning nap was that they were taking longer and longer to fall asleep at their morning nap (started with 9.30am and then pushed it later and later until it was getting on for 10.30 before they'd fall asleep). At this point, I spoke to nursery and asked them to push them to 1 nap. Nursery were great and made sure they got their lunch in the first sitting (11.30) and put them straight down afterwards (any time from 11.45 onwards).
Now, I'm having the next stage of the problem. They won't go down for their one nap until getting on for 2pm and mess about for ages before going to sleep. No nap at all today!

For us though, the number of naps has never really impacted on their night time sleep (i.e: they didn't sleep less at night when they were still on 2 naps but ready to drop and they didn't sleep longer at night when they dropped their 2nd nap and moved to 1).

I'd say try and push their morning nap later by 15 mins every couple of days for the next couple of weeks. Once they make it to about 11am, you can let them have a long 1-2 hour nap and give them lunch when they wake at 1ish. You could then keep pushing it later and later until they end up with an early lunch 11.30/12 and nap straight after

breastfeeding and returnign to work help!

Posted: 05/01/2011 at 15:19
Ooo tricky one.

I'm not really sure about this but I wondered how old your LO is and whether it is an option to stop breastfeeding during the day and just do the early morning and bedtime feeds? Obviously you shouldn't be forced to do this just because your work won't accommodate your expressing needs but wondered if you had considered it? Hope they get something organised for you soon but I think it's like flexible working hours - they are supposed to 'try' and accommodate your request but are not obliged to xx

if anyone can help me ,,,

I know it's not the same as you are describing but what about some Gruffalo fuzzy felt?

It'll be a bit more hard-wearing than stickers too

When do you stop sterilising?

Posted: 02/01/2011 at 07:04
I stopped at 1 year when we moved to beakers and cows milk. I know I could've stopped earlier but not sterilising a bottle didn't 'feel' right to me. I know plenty of people who stopped before a year though

Getting poo stains out of cloth nappies.

Soak them in a biological washing powder (i.e: Ariel) before washing them with your normal powder. Ariel gets everything out - it's been my lifesaver as so many clothes would've been ruined and stained without it!

What car will have a big enough boot?

I have a golf and have fitted my double buggy and a friend's single in the boot. It's a spacious car with decent boot but not massive to drive or park

Napping when visiting other people

Thanks for your suggestions ladies.
Their car seats are the Maxi Cosi Priorifix Isofix ones so they are really heavy to take out of the car and are not sturdy on the floor due to the isofix leg.
They are 18 months and unfortunately can't do without their nap. If only they could,it'd be so much easier but they'll be utterly miserable if they don't nap!
I might have to try the 'duvets on the floor' option I think. If I put them down when they are tired enough then hopefully they will sleep for a bit. I'll have to create some kind of divide with furniture etc. to stop them messing about with each other. Aaarrgghhh!

Thanks again for the ideas xx

Napping when visiting other people

Does anyone have any creative suggestions of how I can make the girls comfortable for a nap at someone else's house?

They have one 2 hour nap after lunch. Over Christmas, we need to (!) visit the in-laws. Normally when we go there, we leave here during nap time, drive the 1 hour and then one of us sits in the car with them when we arrive until they wake up.

Over Christmas, we really need to aim to arrive earler (i.e: before start of nap time) but I have no idea what solution I can build/concoct to let them nap. They are still in cots with the sides on at home. We only have 1 travel cot as whenever we've stayed away they have always provided them.

At the moment, the only thing I can thing is that the girls and I will be spending 2 hours of boxing day afternoon sitting in the car while they nap! Thought about taking the single buggies (double won't even fit through in-laws' door) but their house is really small so even if the girls do fall asleep in the buggies, there is nowhere for them to be left that's quiet and warm.

I feel like I must be missing an obvious solution here but not sure what it is?! Please help! xx
