Who we are?

Hi, I'm Jessica. I think I'm the oldest on here so far as I am 33. I have one son, Peter, who will be two in just over a week's time () and have, with typical poor timing, just started a new job this month! :roll:

I can only get on this site occasionally at work as the site revamp makes my home computer crash, but I hope I will get to know you ladies over the coming months.

Thanks so much for the welcome, ladies. Hopefully I will make it on here a bit more regularly. It makes a nice distraction from my nausea, something which work doesn't seem to do, for some strang reason!

I was born in New York City, went to university in Connecticut, moved to Britain for graduate school and have been here ever since. Since moving I have lived in Cambridge, Leeds, Oxford, Ely and now back in Leeds again for the next three years minimum. Oh, the peripatetic joys of life as part of a young academic couple!

A quick hello

Hi, ladies. I had a lovely message from LadyK over the weekend so thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I am THG and I'm pregnant with my second with and edd of 1st October, so by my calculation I'm seven weeks today.

I already have a son, Peter, who will be 2 on 1st March. I used to post in BiMarch'09, Baby and Toddler quite a lot, but since the site changed logging in to the site has made my home laptop crash. These days I post mainly on The Nest (z15.invisionfree.com/TheNest) which is a bit friendlier to my poor old computer, although I do read on here occasionally and can post from work (although I'm reluctant to do so as it is a very new job!)

Anyway, I hope you will come over and visit us on The Nest, and I will try to pop in here occasionally to catch up. And may we all have a healthy and happy 8 remaining months.

Aw, thanks, ladies. Sorry not to have replied before but logging on to this site currently makes my laptop crash so I can only log on at work and only briefly as it is a new job and I don't want to rock the boat to much. (Coco is quite right, I am posting on The Nest which is a bit more user-friendly as far as my laptop is concerned.)

Lady K, your birdy was quite right. My edd is 1st October so I am seven weeks today and feeling sick as a dog. Congratulations to you too and I hope you aren't feeling anywhere near as rough as I am! :lol: I'll pop into DIO while my office mate is out and say hello, but thank you so much for my FAO.

Thanks, ladies. I've googled viral rashes and I'm pretty certain that is what it is, which is a huge relief. And good to know that it is a sign he is on the mend! He has been pretty miserable the last couple of days - not good, as I seem to have some bug as well.

I'm still not sure what to do about tomorrow. I think I'll see how we are feeling in the morning before confirming anything, but we are predicted freezing fog so not sure that driving for miles to take a 'winter wonderland' walk is ideal, all things considered!

What on earth is this?

Peter is covered in pin-prick spots. I noticed them on his back, bum and tummy yesterday; now they are on his arms, legs and face as well. They don't look like chicken pox spots as described by my book of words, and as far as I am aware he hasn't been in contact with anyone with chicken pox, but I can't figure out what else they could be.

He also has a spectacularly awful cold, so has been a bit under the weather with that, although not feverish at all. And his cheeks have been bright red for the past few days, which we put down to teething. I am supposed to be taking him to a Christmas park tomorrow with a group of friends, but I'm wondering if I had better cancel and take him to the doctor instead. If it is chicken pox I need to know as there is a child at his nursery who is immuno-compromised so I can't let him go if there is any risk of them coming into contact while he is contagious.

HELP Toddler obsessed with throwing

When Peter was going through is throwing phase, we focussed on getting him to throw balls rather than anything else. So if he threw a brick, we said 'No, Peter, we throw balls, NOT bricks', took away the brick and handed him a ball. Then we moved on to throwing outside rather than inside, but he still throws his soft ball inside. It takes time and is extremely frustrating while it lasts, but they do learn. Peter throws a lot less and usually only balls. Now if he throws something he shouldn't, he gets told 'No, that hurts' or 'We don't throw' and he understands. But he is 21 months now.

Thanks, ladies. He actually ate some apple at lunch - woohoo! I'll work on ignoring it, a lot easier said than done, especially meals where it is just him and me and I have done a bit of cooking. *sigh*
