Safety of lo when under your feet whilst cooking! Tips pleas

I don't really have an answer, but i also have the same problem.

My older girls, Erin 6 & Hayley 4 can sometimes listen and leave the kitchen but i hate cooking with Paige around.

I'm paranoid when i'm boiling potatoes or cooking pasta or rice and i make sure David has Paige in the lounge when i'm moving about the kitchen.

Back again

Hi girls, i'm back again but it's been a while since i've been on here. I don't know how you all still find the time.

We've had a bumpy few weeks where Paige has been sick on and off. About 6 weeks ago she had a bit of a cold which came with a face rash and conjunctivitis ( the doctor said she was probably rubbing snot into her eyes (gross)). Then about 2 weeks ago she had a few random blisters which we (meaning me, the clinic nurse, the pharmacist, and the doctor) all thought was going to be chicken pox. This came 2 days after Paige was eligible for the free chicken pox vaccine.

After another 24 hrs the spots looked like huge craters not the usual scabby chicken pox lesions and the GP diagnosed impetigo - school sores. I felt even more grossed out, where did she get it???? my other 2 girls (4 & 6) don't have it. Now, another 2 weeks later she has another virus with a rash all over her chest, back and tummy which is really itchy.

Paige now has a rash head to toe which is itchy, a heap of glandular lumps all over the back of her head and is generally miserable most of the day.

Her medicinal routine is getting to be a chore with antibiotics 3 times per day, antibiotic cream 3 times per day, paracetamol 3 times per day plus antihistimines 2 times per day, needless to say she is getting pretty fed up with the whole thing.

I feel so helpless and don't know how long it's going to take to ride this out (already 6 weeks and counting).

Hope you are all well, and i'll try to keep up with current happenings, lol

Potties and beds

Posted: 03/04/2009 at 06:36
Paige is nearly 16 mths now and tonight she lifted her shirt and looked down at her pants and said "poo", and sure enough she had, lol.

I don't know if i'll get the potty out straight away but it shows she is connecting the actions now.

I live in Australia and smears are recommended every 2 years from when you are sexually active.

I had my first abnormal smear at the age of 23 and i hate to think how far my pre-cancerous cells could have grown in 2 years, considering how fast cervical cancer can appear.

Age is not a barrier for cervical cancer, ask your GP or OB/GYN for a test as soon as possible, as if you have already had a baby, you obviously fall into the risk category.

Most cervical cancers are caused by a simple virus that apparantly is carried by 85% of the worlds female population.

Good luck all and don't be shy, a pap smear is not nearly as bad as having a baby, lol.

Biting

Posted: 17/02/2009 at 07:45
Paige is 14 mths old and she has started biting most people around her, usually when she is a bit p'd off and cranky.

Her favourite target is Hayley, her 4yo sister and this usually happens when Hayley wants a cuddle or when i'm helping her get dressed or brushing her hair etc.

It's very obviously an attention thing, as in she doesn't want to share mummy or daddy at the moment, but she needs to know that she has 2 older sisters who also need mummy and daddy's love too.

Paige starts hitting out or scratching at whoever is sitting in mummy's lap and then drops her head and bares her teeth, and my 2 older girls are a starting to get nervous whenever Paige gets near and opens her mouth, lol.

Has anyone else had this problem and if so what measures have you taken to sort it out??

Thanks, Shell

Dare we discuss the 13yr old father? No arguments ladies!!

I was also appalled at the story, especially regarding the number of "would be" fathers who are now putting their hands up for a bit of fame as well.

I have not heard a single report mentioning the numerous sexually transmitted diseases she may have caught (and also be sharing) to go along with the fact that adequate protection was not used.

White blood count

Posted: 13/02/2009 at 07:48
Hi all, my 4 yo daughter constantly suffers from tonsillitis, but not enough (apparantly) to have them removed.

She has just had 2 courses of antibiotics back to back which have not cleared the infection - 2 days after finishing antibiotics fever goes back up to 39C and tonsils flare and she vomits everywhere.

Went to dr this morning and she suggested it may not be tonillitis causing problems but an ongoing viral illness such as glandular fever - so ordered blood test. After a couple of hours got call from dr to pick up prescription for more antibiotics as white blood count was 23000 and to start taking medicine and wait for rest of test results for further action.

Does anyone have any idea of what is "normal" in regards to blood count? I know that 23000 is high but is there a difference between high and "really high" that may indicate a more serious problem?

Any help appreciated, thanks, Michelle
