bedtimes

Posted: 19/01/2010 at 11:08
Hi there ladies - gosh I havent been on here for ages - hope everyone is doing really well! .. as for bedtimes we have got into a bedtime routine - starts at 6.15pm with half a bottle - then bath - then dressing for bed after a massage - then the other half of the bottle - swaddle then bed ... she goes down about 6.45 and is down in her room until around 10.30 when DH gives her a dream feed which now sees her through until 7am ... it took ages to drop the 3am feed but we slowly reduced the amount she was taking once she got to 11lbs until she was only taking 30mls - the next day she didnt wake .. im sure it will all go wrong once she has her next growth spurt / teething etc etc but glad we have got to where we have at this point ...

High bp and protein (Also in Due in Nov) UPDATED

Posted: 09/10/2009 at 04:39
Hi there Jenny - sorry I didnt see your post over in November - but found it here ...Im in v similar position - I was actually in for a 32 week scan (for something completly different) when they found she wasnt growing well (now at the bottom of the bottom quartlie bless her!) .. then Bp was again around 160/100 with ++ in urine -3 weeks later I still am visiting the day assessment unit twice a week being monitored. They have put me on bp meds which have regulated my bo but its still boarderline .. also bloods are coming back with + Proteins ... again like you they have said they will induce at 37 weeks (eek 2 weeks time) - all a bit scary but at least by 37/8 weeks they will be full term and to be honest i am soo dying to see her that in some ways im just glad there is a plan! - good luck and keep me posted on the nov forum!!

Kicks?

Posted: 10/09/2009 at 06:15
sounds like it - you should find over the next few weeks they get stronger and more definatley kicks (there is no mistaking them after a while) - its only at that point i was able to look back and know the initital pops and futters were early kicks - its so lovely although when they start squirming is when it gets a little like a scene off Alien! For all those Bugaboo Cameleon babes out there!

I would second Bedhead - my best friend also has the denim and again after 18 months has had no problems and loves it! .. As for are Bugaboos worth it - IMO yes - our plan is to sell it after our first and move onto a phil and teds when we have 2. One of the reasons we went for the bugaboo was its great resale value if you do go down the route of changing prams for the second.

we picked ours up last week - we werent so funky with the colours - went for chocolate brown top and bottom but also got the sand coloured fleece top as part of the package ... good bet our DD will have ginger hair so thought the browns wouldnt clash!

Will you put the cot in the nursery straight away?

It is amazing the polar responces people have to Gina - she truely is the marmite of the parenting world! Personally I have read a number of different books on the subject just to give me some ideas - im a first time mum and as such have no practical experience of any of this - but want to be well read and well informed so I can try different things out when our DD arrives. I certainly dont think Gina is horror many do - its a personal choice - although I understand why she elicits such responces. Many of my friends have followed gina to different degrees and all have had happy healthy well adjusted babies - then again many have demand feeded etc and again all was good with the baby ... personally i plan to have a crib in with us for several months due to the cot death issue but similarly I do want her to have naps during the day in her room to get used to it too - whether that starts on day1 or month1 im not going to stress but I see some logic in it ...

Hi K-lou just popping over from pregnancy - you should take a read of some books such as baby whisperer and rachel waddilove - not strict like gina but they do give a rough structure to work around - even if you dont follow it strictly - it may help to see how a day can be structured - and the best advise of all these books is - if it doesnt go to plan - dont beat yourself up - every day is a new day and a clean slate! good luck!

Baby Book Recommendations

Posted: 08/09/2009 at 09:15
I have 2 sorts - what to expect in the first year, and miriam stoppard for more the baby manual type book ie what they should be doing at each stage and then also I have a number of books on child rearing - ranging from GIna Ford to the baby whisperer with Rachel waddilove (Gwyneth Paltrows nanny) inbetween - each of them are based around the same principles but range from the very strict (Gina) to the not so strict (baby whisperer). Im someone who naturally likes structure and is more comfortable with it - all my friends with children have followed some degree of structure and swear by it - so I am going to give it a go. I think the important thing is to not follow any too ridgidly but pick the bits that will work for you. I know much has been said about Gina - in particular the fact she doesnt have her own children. To me thats not a big issue as although she doesnt have her own, she has worked in the nanny field for her career and therefore has considerable experience if not herself experiencing the mother role... good luck and happy reading!!

What are you expecting OH to do in labour?

Posted: 24/08/2009 at 04:01
Hmmm I will be adding - no getting on your blackberry/mobile etc ... no going off to check the car is ok (!), no asking 'is there anything i can do to help' as im sure certain 4 letter words will be spouted forth from me at that point ... oh and no saying 'gosh im quite tired' or ' i have a headache' or basically anything about his own well being - as im sure by that stage i wont care how he is ... just read this back and sounds v uncaring - but i know when im in pain and stressed I will just need to focus - thank god he loves me just the way i am!
