Help on hitting, pulling hair etc...

Posted: 05/03/2010 at 08:49
Hello ladies - I haven't been on here for the longest time - too busy these days with a very active Reiss and another little boy I look after during the week.

For quite some time now Reiss has been throwing almighty tantrums about anything and everything, or sometimes nothing! My real problem however is that he is really hitting the little boy I look after. B (other boy) is 20months old but quite delayed due to prematurity. He crawls, but doesn't talk or really feed himself etc yet so he's really quite far behind Reiss even though there's only 2 months age gap.

When they're playing, Reiss hates B touching any of his stuff, getting any attention etc, or if I leave them together to go into the kitchen area or the loo, it nearly always ends up in Reiss attacking B. He sits on him, pushes him over, pulls his hair, hits him. This happens around 20 odd times in the day so not isolated incidences. B doesn't fight back, he tends to just howl (understandably) and lay down. I feel so bad, but have tried loads of things from sitting Reiss on the step, putting him in his bed, ignoring him and giving B the attention instead etc. I always make him apologise too. He does hit other kids at group etc and his 6 year old brother, but that doesn't seem to be as much of a problem now as he seems to go and find older kids to play with rather than the babies.

I know he is very jealous of B, as he is really clingy to me, won't even let his dad do things for him etc. Not only am I shattered, but I'm getting a little worried as this phase seems to be running on and on....

Any advice?!

Thanku.xx

Hi hon, SANDS offer an online (and I think real world) support group. If you ask in Bereavement there are a few ladies in there who have lost young babies.

Lots of hugs.xx

Should I take him to the doctor?

Posted: 16/10/2009 at 11:39
I am not one to run to the doctor, but in the case of a chest infection I'd be more inclined. Does he still sound chesty/wheezy? Is his chest rising and falling more than usual? Is he breathing faster than normal?

If he doesn't have any of those symptoms and his temp stays below 38 I personally wouldn't take him as it is probably viral, however if his temp goes up or he has any of those symptoms I would get him checked out again.

that's only my personal opinion obviously, but if you at all concerned, follow your mummy instinct and get him checked out.xx

Anything you wished you'd done differently?

Lol - can anyone else see what I've written? I can only see a blank page lol.

What I said - and where did my post go excuse me....?

Right:

I wouldn't have pandered to Reiss quite so much - I picked him up whenever he cried etc and created such a problem as he was a real clingy baby that tbh I didn't enjoy the first year at all Im ashamed to admit. I seemed to be constantly on edge and thinking about the next problem instead of just enjoying him, you'd think with him being my 4th I would have learned but obviously not! I also think because I know he's my last I did 'spoil' him a bit and in turn made my own life a bit of a hell on earth. so I would definitely not have made him so reliant on me all the time.

The other thing that I so so SOOOO wish could have been different is the bfing. It didn't go very well and although I scraped it to 6months, it wasn't exclusive as I didn't have enough milk and I still miss it so much even now. I know it sounds really sad but I long for the days when he was breastfed - so much so that I haven't been able to bear to look on the bfing forum since my milk dried up. Knowing I'll never have that experience again makes me really sad. In fact I once clicked on the bf forum by mistake and I actually closed my eyes so I couldn't see the posts - how sad is that?!

So, is there anything you wish you'd done anything different?

(and apologies for posting a blank post!)xx
