wont let me brush teeth!

Posted: 12/01/2011 at 13:16
have you tried a fruit flavoured toothpaste?? my lo hates the taste of mint and it got to the stage where i was pinning her to her bed. spoke to one of the specialist children's dentist at work and he said as long as there's 1000 parts fluoride (will tell you on the tube) it doesn't matter what flavour it is, lots of dentists will tell you to use a adult mint one but it has to be adult strength ( 1000 parts fluoride) doesn't matter about the flavour and he should know he wrote the guidance for the government . pippa loves having her teeth brushed now and always tells me if i forget. worth a try if nothing else xx

Amber teething beads

we got one for pippa after having a terrible 8 months whilst she got her 1st tooth, she started teething at 8 weeks, i was willing to try anything. there amazing, she has a necklace and i don't take it of any longer, apart from bath time, as soon as she gets out she asks for it back on. she got her back teeth through and we didn't even know till we saw them, she occasionaly has a bit of a play with them but normally leaves them alone, well worth a try

When do they start using proper cups

Posted: 24/12/2010 at 04:11
pippa is 20 months old and we went staraight from a bottle to a doidy cup and the last couple of months have just changed to a normal cup, she only has a beaker at nursery as they don't like spills but at home she drinks out of an open cup all the time and only occasionally spills anything, we had lots of accidents at first but she soon got the hang of it

pippa was 20lb at 9 months and is about 24lb at 20 months, so guessing about 22lb at a year, her weight stopped over the summer and has only just started increasing again, it deffinatley slowed down when she started moving

Brushing teeth

as long as the toothpaste has a 1000 parts flouride it doesn't matter if it's a baby one or adult, same goes for taste be it mint or strawberry. the dentist who wrote the last government paper on dental health for children told me. it's the amount of flouride that's important when choosing a toothpaste, we have strawberry flavour as mint flavour makes pippa vomit, and my dentist told me of for it, but the dentist i spoke to at work said he's an arse and flavour doesn't matter, just flouride content, hope that makes sense

Eating out with a 14 month old?

Posted: 15/11/2010 at 12:59
i have a little piggy who we've been buying children's meals for since before she was 1. we only eat where i know she'll be ok, she has allergies so have to be careful anyway, but i am getting more relaxed about what she eats, last week she even had a few chips . she can easily finish a childs meal now so no chance of sharing any longer, sure people think i eat her food as well as my own
btw pippa was blw so she's always shared our food anyway so not as much a problem

Posted: 15/11/2010 at 12:43
pippa had her mmr and 12 month jabs at the same time (think it was three injection all at once) and apart from sobbing when they did it she was absolutely fine.
