Hi everyone!

Hi Sah83!

Thank you for the welcome Yes this is my first baby, very excited, but very nervous, there is so much to learn! Congratulations for your 3rd, very exciting!

Poor you for the sickness I was really sick too, and it is only just beginning to ease off, and i'm in week 13 now, rubbish! I can't imagine how difficult it is trying to cope with the sickness as well as having two other children to look after, i've found it hard enough just coping with a dog and two cats!

I have requested to join the fb group, so will hopefully be chatting on there soon x

Hi everyone!

Hello!

I was also in the due in December forum, but my dating scan last week revealed that I wasn't 13 weeks as the midwife and doctor told me, but I was actually 11 weeks. Bit annoying as i've been following my babys development day by day, and now realised i've been 2 weeks out the whole time! My due date went from the 19th of December to the 2nd of Jan. I'm actually more pleased about that, as i'm hoping that LO will be a bit late, as the furthest I can get away from xmas day the better!

Can't believe you have 2 with birthdays on the 10th of Jan and potentially a 3rd! January will be a very expensive month for you!

Hope everything is going well with this pregnancy xx

Overweight & Pregnant

Posted: 19/06/2012 at 20:46

I am overweight too and am nearly 14 weeks pregnant. I was very shocked when I saw the midwife as she classed me as obese, which I wasn't expecting at all, as i'm a size 14- though I am only 5 foot 3, so I guess that is why. Seem to have put on loads of weight since I found out i'm pregnant though, which I don't really understand as i've been really sick, so my appetite has been pretty poor!

I reckon, like you said Laurelladie, unless you're enormous and have loads of health problems, then it's fine, it won't affect your parenting skills at all. The midwife didn't seem overly bothered about my weight, I think she just put it in my notes because really my BMI meant that she had to.

H&H 9 months to all of you

could i be pregnant?

Hey,

This sounds exactly like what happened to me, and i'm 14 weeks pregnant now

I was due AF, waited 6 days and did a test but it was negative. I had been having strange tummy cramps (quite similar to AF pains) for a few days, so assumed after my negative test that AF was coming. The next morning I had a bit of blood when I went to the toilet, so shoved some tampons in my bag and went off to work in a bad mood, expecting AF to arrive in full swing by the afternoon, but it didn't. I decided to do another test when I got home from work the next day, and got my BFP! I had the strange tummy pains for about the first 4 weeks after that, and the doctor said it was just my uterus expanding.

I hope it is your BFP, i've got everything crossed for you! xx

Anyone showing yet??

YES! I am overweight anyway, I am 5'2 and a size 14/16- so not noticing it so much on my tummy, but same as you dotty, finding it really hard to suck my tummy in as it hurts! This isn't good as i'm off to Crete on Saturday! My boobs have got enormous, which DH loves, but i'm finding annoying because it means loads of my clothes that I was relying on being able to wear for a while due to their non clingy nature, now don't fit over my boobs at all. Had to buy 2 new bras at the weekend and seem to have gone from a 36D to a 36E! Grrr!

Dogs and new babies?

Hi everyone, sorry for such a late reply, I hadn't realised that anyone had replied to this thread as I didn't get any notification e-mails!

Thank you for all of your advice, it has been really useful We're certainly going to invest in a play pen, as I really think it will be useful to have somewhere safe to put the baby where I know that Rodney can't accidentally step on him/her!

I'm really glad that you said about not needing a sterile environment Feebs, this makes total sense, and it is certainly a load of my mind knowing that I don't have to constantly be disinfecting everything once baby arrives!  My parents have a cairn terrier who sounds very much like your westie, love terriers! I so know what you mean about parents who let their children go up to strange dogs, we get it all the time. Luckily Rod is soft as anything, but I think it's madness, he's a 42kg dog, so it's is not sensible to pet him without first asking if he is friendly, but people let their children do it all the time!

I think we are also going to invest in a stairgate and get our dog used to not following us around the house everywhere, so then when the baby arrives, it will be easier for us to take it upstairs for a nappy change/bath etc without the dog feeling like he has to come!

Ipanema, your great dane sounds gorgeous! My husband really wants a great dane, but I think we will have to wait until our current dog is much older, not sure we can cope with a new dog, a new baby, and our current menagerie!

Blondefriend, that is so sad about your lurcher We used to have a greyhound, and they are such lovely placid animals, she looks beautiful in your picture. So glad that your DS is okay though, what a heartbreaking situation for you.

Wif- Bear sounds amazing! Don't you just love doodles?! So nice to hear that your son and your doodle are good friends, that is exactly what I want for my LO and Rodney! Definitely going to download the sound of a baby crying, Rodney hasn't had much contact with babies or children, so I think that is essential for us.

Thank you for all your advice everyone, DH and I are really really grateful for all of your replies, and very encouraged!

xx

Getting to know eachother - Part Two

Oh yay love this!

How far in to your pregnancy are you now?

 8 weeks 3 days

What are you finding most challenging about your pregnancy so far?

Constant sickness and crazy tiredness which make it so hard to go to work Can't wait until I can tell them and maybe be allowed a bit of sympathy and leeway if i'm feeling terrible.

Who have you told about your pregnancy so far?

Both sets of parents, a few other close family members, a few close friends, and a couple of people at work because I couldn't keep my mouth shut! (Too many people basically!)

How did you chose your Baby Expert username?

My initials and the year I was born

What is your favourite film?

Dirty Dancing and A Little Princess

What is your favourite restaurant/ type of food?

Pretty much everything! I do really love Turkish food though.

Where would be your dream holiday destination?

Well I went to Florida on my Honeymoon (not a particularly conventional choice!), so would love to go back there, or to Hawaii or the Maldives. However, I am going to Crete for two weeks on Saturday, so pretty excited about that at the moment!

Dogs and new babies?

Posted: 30/04/2012 at 21:54

Hi all,

My husband and I are having a bit of a dilemma regarding our beautiful dog, and I wondered if you guys have any suggestions/experiences regarding pets and babies?

We have a lovely 2 1/2 year old labradoodle called Rodney, and until now, he has been the absolute centre of everything. Our friends and family take the mickey out of us because we treat him like a child, not a dog! He sleeps on our bed, lies by the bath while we are bathing, and comes everywhere with us. He is absolutely the most beautifully natured, calm, affectionate dog that i've ever encountered (haha, I know i'm bias!) and I trust him 100%, i've seen him wash and cuddle up with 8 week old kittens. (I don't mean that i'd take risks and leave him unattended with a baby, I totally realise that he is a dog not a human! I just mean that I really trust his nature)

Anyway, all of that aside, my family keep telling me that we need to make changes before our baby arrives, as we will feel totally differently about the dog when we have a child of our own. My Mum thinks that we should ban him from going upstairs, and stop him from sleeping on our sofa. I know it's really pathetic, as he is only a dog, and we are going to be bringing a child into the world, but I don't really want things to change! Before I got pregnant, I had a lovely mental family picture that totally involved Rodney, and had an idea that our child would grow up and remember how lovely their first dog was! I know that he is a really big dog, and that I will have to be really careful, because obviously babies are so delicate and need a sterile environment, but is it really unrealistic to have a baby and keep the situation the same with my dog? Two of my cousins even seriously suggested that they thought that my husband and I should get rid of him (this is not an option!)!!

Sorry if I sound totally ridiculous! I am a huge animal lover, and often get laughed at by my friends for treating my little menagerie like children, but I can't help it! Please feel free to tell me to get a grip! I am so so so excited about having my beautiful little baby, but am I asking for an animal/baby harmony that does not exist?

Does anyone else have babies/children and dogs? How do you manage it?

Any advice/experiences will be appreciated xx

Getting to know you...

Ooooooh, I LOVE this!

me? Charley

Age? 25

Where do you live? Oxford

What do you do? Children's Fiction and Picture Book Publishing- LOVE it!

Is this your first pregnancy? Yes! Very nervous!

Do you have any pets? Yes, a GORGEOUS chocolate brown labradoodle called Rodney, who is the love of my life (sometimes even above DH )! Plus two beautiful but very anti social cats, Maggie-May who is a maine coon, and Rocky who is a moggie, and weirdly has two extra digits on each of his front feet!

What was the last thing you ate? A huge bowl of vanilla ice cream- as if I didn't feel sick enough already!

What are you missing now you're pregnant? Nothing yet as i've only known for a week, but the thought of spending 9 months without soft eggs and pate fills me with dread, both are weekend staples!

And (other than the baby!) what are you most looking forward to about being pregnant? Making lots of new Mummy friends, and my 20 week scan when I can find out the sex of my beautiful baby!

Nervous hello
