How can hypnotherapy help you cope with labour?
'Hypnotherapy can help with the birth experience on a number of different levels. It can teach and help the expectant mother how to distress and relax. It can boost her confidence levels and dispel any fears she may have. It can also enable her to bond with her expectant baby.
Hypnotherapy during pregnancy (or for that matter Pre Pregnancy
whilst you are trying) is excellent for anyone, no matter what. These days, no matter what your circumstances and your mental attitude, we are under, to a greater or lesser degree, stress 24/7.
Stress during pregnancy is almost inevitable, and if mum is stressed this is transferred to baby. And no expectant mother would wish this for their baby.
Hypnotherapy for, during and after pregnancy addresses all the expectant mum's issues, whether it's fear because they are a first timer or even a second timer. It helps them to gain confidence. It can allay most of their fears.
Why might you be a good candidate for it?
You may be very fearful or have had a bad experience during your first pregnancy and hoping for a better experience second time round.
Can you use a book/DVD or does it have to be classes?
To learn the techniques of hypnobirthing, it is far better to go to a reputable practitioner experienced in this field.
Your practitioner will teach you self-hypnosis more efficiently and effectively. You can read books and/or DVDs but for the best results seek a professionals guidance.
How does it work? What's the theory behind it?
Hypnotherapy/self-hypnosis is an altered state of awareness a deep relaxation. When that state is achieved the subconscious comes to the fore.
Provided the suggestions given by the therapist are within the patient's/client's core beliefs, principles and ethics, those suggestions will be taken on board and acted on.
What equipment do you need?
I am often asked what equipment is needed to practise self-hypnosis once the techniques have been learnt. Absolutely nothing. All you need is a comfy chair.
Does it work for everyone?
Yes it does, provided you want to be hypnotized. Remember if you can - and enjoy - relaxing, hypnotherapy will work for you.
