Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well.

So, I had my MW app today and have been told that because I am Rhesus Negative I have to have the Anti D injection at 28 weeks, is anyone else in the same boat?

Also, I just had to tell you all that I heard flumps heartbeat for the first time today and burst into tears!
I was by myself which is probably why I did it, but am shocked that I was prepared at the scan with tissues and was abs fine and then heard the heartbeat today and just melted!! I'm so happy.

Awww great news about the heartbeat!!

Hi Koukla Moo
I am! I have my 16 week MW appointment tomorrow so may ask more about it then, but I've had my appointment through for the injection - it's on my birthday of all days - yippee! I don't want to change it though as I want to get it done at the correct time, I'm hoping to hear the heartbeat tommorrow - fingers crossed!x

Thanks for the reply Snugglenush, you're a sweetie xxx

Hi Mrsj36, I had a quick look online earlier as the MW I had today wasn't my regular one and didn't know where the leaflet was that tells you all about it.
It seems there's nothing to worry about but it's just interesting to speak to other girls who are having it too.
I presume I'll get the appointment letter through soon too then, where are you going for yours, GP or hospital??

G/C from DIN. I am rhesus negative. Had the 3 injections last time as when I had dd she had same blood group as hubby. Will have the injections again this time. MW did them in my bum check and they hurt! I am such a wuss. xx

Hi KM, I am Rhesus Negative and will have to have anti D at 28 weeks also. My MW told me that you only get one jab now but in your bum of all places!! Mind you, dont know why I'm bothered they will have seen a lot more of me by the time this baby arrives lol!! I also received a letter and a leaflet from NHS Scotland explaining why the Anti D is needed, as far as I know it's not so much for this pregnancy but to ensure any future pregnancies are healthy as if the baby has a different blood type our bodies can produce antibodies against it. I was also given a card which I must carry at all times so if I am involved in an accident and need to be given blood they know I am pregnant but also Rhesus Negative. Hope this helps, I'm not sure where abouts in the country you are, this is what happened for me in Scotland (NHS Highland)

Take care

Hiya, I was having a read through your Oct forum as my baby was born in Oct 09 last year and wanted to see where I was up to this time last year lol.
Anyway, I'm rhesus negative too, and I only had to have one injection and it was done in my arm. It hurt a little bit when she was doing it but afterwards it was totally fine. I'm from Lancashire, and I was neve given a card like Autumn it seems like a very good idea, and wish they'd do something like that for us down here. The NHS policies differ so much depending on where you are, so it might be best to speak to your midwife about how they do it!

Hope I've helped a little

Sorry KM, can't help with the injections (I know they're called Anti-D but that's it!) but I wanted to say HOORAY at hearing the HB...best sound in the world!

Thanks for all your replies girls,

Jellyfishpink - I hope you are a wuss and it doesn't really hurt that much! ;\)

Autumn and Jellytots, I was sent a little card with my blood group info on and I live in Kent, so yes it's obviously different depending on which area you live in.

Sparkly Fairy, tee hee, thank you and yes I agree it was a very heartwarming sound, also it strangely felt MORE real now I've heard the heartbeat.

Hiya, I've had Anit D with my first 2 pregnancies and got the date for this pregnancy too. I've had all my injections in my arm (although I did have to fight midwife after dd2 as she wanted me to have it to have it in my bum and looked at me like a crazy lady when i told her it'd be my 4th time and all others have gone in my arm and so was this!) and it doesn't hurt, it just feels really weird as you can feel it going up your arm cos it's really cold!!

i am too had 3 injections with millie as she was positive. i had it in my arm i didnt think it hurt at all but them injections dont bother me xxx

I had no idea what it meant with my 1st so i thought i'd reply and hopefully help.

I'm Rhesus negative too, my blood is Bneg which scared the hell out of me coz i just thought i was O and didn't realise i actually had rare blood.

Basically your baby may develop positive blood and if you blood then comes into contact with your babies blood it will fight it. The injection disguises your blood so that it doesn't harm your baby.

Your midwife should arrange your injection appointment, you only get one now and mine was in my arm.

When your baby is born if it has positive blood you will get another injection.

It's very important to always carry your notes (my midwife wrote in big letters B neg on the front of mine) or a card. If you have and accident or have any bleeding you will need to get an extra Anti D injection.

Hope this helps

Hi KM- i'm rh-ve too, have always known i was so discussed it with my mw at my booking appointment. She has ordered the first anti-D dose for me and i'll be having it at 28 weeks then another at 34 weeks and after birth. It's nothing to be concerned about but I was just warned that I should extra alert if for any reason the bump was knocked hard (car accident/ fall etc) as this would perhaps trigger a need for an earlier/ extra dose

More injections to look forward to- aren't we a lucky bunch!

Koukla Moo - I am big wuss with injections! Although in my defence she didn't half jab it into my bum! Ouch! She told me I should have more fat on my bum cheeks lol. Oh the joys...I have it all to come again this time too.

I never got a card either, but it was written into my risk assessment at work that I was rhesus negative. xx

Hi girls, I knew I was Rhesus negative but didnt think I needed an injection until after the baby was born and depending on their blood type. But I got an appointment card in the post for an injection at 29 weeks.

Im a bit wuss with needles too!!!

It defo makes sense to carry a card with me. Think I will make sure hubby is familiar with it just in case.

2princessesandbump, I'm glad to hear if we stamp our feet hard enough we might get in in our arm as opposed to our butt.

Twinklestarfairy, thank you for the info, my MW explained most of it to me and I've now informed hubby of my blood group and the whereabouts of my little card that's in my wallet, just in case!

MrsBinks, thanks for the heads up on if I get knocked hard in the belly, and yeah more injections, hurrah!! I already found out I have an anterior placenta so nothing surprises me now, I'm gonna be the awkward one!!

Jellyfishpink, every time I read a post from you I crave jellybeans!! Speaking of which, if your MW complained you didn't have enough fat on your bumcheeks then I'm laughing as I got on the scales this morning and have gained a whole stone!!

MrsWood, I'm following your lead and have informed hubby of the whereabouts of my card and which blood type I am, not that he'll remember.

Koukla Moo - I told hubby yesterday lunchtime after I did some research and when I quizzed him about what he would say if something happened to me he said I have weird blood that needs an injection.

Think it may take a while for him to actually remember 'Rhesus negative'!!! Men - honestly!

Mrs wood, that's hilarious and also slightly worrying!! Lol.
I'm gonna test hubby tonight and will be back later with his answer. Xx
