Hello ladies

Sorry if this has been done before; I did look back a few pages but didn't see it.
Ok so.... I will be 5 DPO on the day of my work christmas party-I would normally have a bit to drink but im worried this would be a bad idea just encase of BFP, it would be very early on and I have read that you don't share blood for a bit longer anyway but im still worried that I could be putting things at risk.

So what is everyone else planning on doing?

Congrats to all recent BFP's and bay dust to all xxx

Hi - I am in a similar position - Xmas do is the 19th, AF due 22nd. I know by that stage I could test, but would rather wait to see if AF arrives (we're only on month 2 of ttc, so trying not to get too eager?!). I think I am just going to have one, possibly two drinks and stick to soft after. Hopefully I can do this without anyone noticing - can't use the excuse of driving as we get to stay overnight in a posh hotel!! We've got one or two Xmas drinks dos as well, but I can drive so no issue there.
It's a difficult one - you can't put your life on hold, but you also want to have some fun and be sensible too.

At 5 dpo it's unlikely that the fertilised egg will have even implanted, let alone anything else. I always have the odd drink when I'm in my 2ww, otherwise you're just putting your life on hold. I'm sure a couple will be fine. If you're eating too you should be able to have a few more. If you're worried about lasting the night - have spritzers or shandies so you can be seen to be drinking the same as others, but in reality, you're only having half (if that makes sense).

I don't smoke, eat fairly well and am reasonably healthy, I'm not going to deny myself the odd drink until I get that bfp!

PS we went out on a friend's 40th and they were unaware at the time she was pregant (a day late and she wasn't trying at the time) and got sozzled - she went on to have a hulking 9lb 10 lovely, healthy boy.

Hiya littlebug
This topic was covered a while ago, definately more than a few pages!
I know it was something that I was worried about too. The way I see it is there is a checklist of the 'ideal' at conception, folic acid, no smoking, good weight, healthy diet, some exercise and no alcohol.
Now you think of how many babies are conceived with all of those boxes checked???
This is why I decided that Im not going to start the tee-totalling until I get that BFP! It will be hard enough giving up the vino for 9 months plus then I'd like to BF so that will again mean abstaining!

So go on and treat yourself!

YEA AFTER ALL ITS THE CROSSING OVER THE PLACENTA WHICH HARMS THE BABY, AND WHILST IT CAN EFFECT FERTILITY, IF UR IN UR 2 WW THEN IT WONT EFFECT IT AS WHATS DONE IS DONE LOL XX MY THEORY ANYWAY XX

I was thinking this the other day, I've decided to have a few westcoast coolers (barely even qualify as alcohol!) and if anyone asks my excuse will be I have to go Christmas shopping with my future mum in law early the next day, sorted

Go for it - abstaining will only tempt fate (whenever i assume i'm pg i always get a bfn!). You'll share a circulatory system with the embryo from around implantation I believe (around 6-10 dpo), but even then there is a membrane dividing the circulation so some materials cross over and some do not (i'd assume alcohol would be one of the materials that does crossover however, seeing as it's not recommended to consume it during pregnancy). Enjoy a glass or two while you can. I drank (moderately) both times i was ttc and stopped as soon as I got my BFP. Plus, my first was conceived at a friend's wedding (we weren't actually ttc at the time) so there was obviously a lot of alcohol involved there! (and smoking too, for my sins...).
Your say
