Long cycles make it difficult to conceive?

Well as you may or may not know my cycles are annoyingly long - 47, 63 and on 46 at the mo. I have just read on the net that if you ovulate late on in your cycle then the egg will be too old and it will make it difficult to concieve. Has anyone else heard this. I'm thinking I should go to the docs but I know they'll say the pill takes a while to come out of your system but I know my cycles were long even when i wasnt on the pill! :\(

I've read that before but not sure if it's actually true! Surely the egg has taken the same time to mature whether your cycles are short or long? Well I'm not an expert but I know of women on here who have gotten BFPs on long cycles so it must be possible.
Do you suspect PCOS sparkly? If so, it's probs worth going to the docs, explaining that your cycles were long before the pill and asking them to test your hormones, they can only say no and tell you to come back in a few months....

I am wondering whether I have that but I had a scan nearly 9 years ago when I thought I had it and I didnt so I dont know.

How long were they before the pill?
Mine were 35 days at 17 (when I went on the pill, am 30 now) but now - ten months after stopping the pill and having all those crap long cycles - it looks like this cycle will be 33!
So they can shorten over time. I saw on your other post you've only been off the pill for 5 months, so maybe wait another couple of cycles before going to the docs. I think AC and Vit B6 may have helped with mine. Also been avoiding dairy and trying to stick to low GI diet to help balance hormones.
(Of course it could all just be coincidence and they would have settled anyway, who knows!).

They were never regular when I wasnt on the pill and always went months without AF, When I was tested for PCOS I was given a scan as they said my testosterone level was high.

I knew my cycles would be like this when I came off the pill and I just cant see them getting any shorter even though I am taking AC and multivits with B6 in. I've made an appt with the docs for Tues so will ask if they can test me for PCOS xx

Good luck at the docs then hon!
I believe you can have PCO syndrome - i.e raised hormone levels - without having polycystic ovaries - and you can have PCOs without any symptoms...v. confusing!
Let us know how you get on.

hi honey

I have very long cycles too and have PCOS and endometresis. I know its frustrating waiting to OV but in regard to the eggs all your eggs are old i'm afraid.....their as old as you are!!!!! OV is the egg being released not produced.

If i were you if you are having irregular cycles go to your doc and explain this, the likely hood is you might be sent away and told it the pill coming our of your system but u might get lucky and they'll test you for PCOS.
