HSG Scan - Fertility Treatment?

Just wondering if anyone has had one...?

Just went to the GP today to get referred to the Fertility Unit, and researching into all my questions and test i want done.

I know i've had scarring (adhensions) before, which they cut away.. But then i got pregnant a month later and it was an ectopic pregnancy... i was too distaught to go through any more procedures but now 5years later, and another miscarriage, wedding looming at the end of the year, and 18mths of trying i want some more test done.

The first thing i want done when i do get referred is a Hysterosalpingogram scan, to see if my tubes are blocked and then the tuboplasty surgery to unblock them if they are blocked.

Is anyone else going through fertility treatment, or had a hsg or other procedure?

Any idea of how long it takes for the appointment to the unit takes?? Fingers crossed for some good news, and a honeymoon baby!!

Hi Hun,

Didn't want to read and run - I've not had one of those yet - I say YET because I am currenlty going under tests and stuff - I was referred to the fertility clinic and the horrible witch there told me my appointment was cancelled!!! So after that I have decided to go private instead of keep hanging around for tests all the time.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS, I've been off the pill a year - only had two periods - about 130 days apart each time, I've been ttc about 6 months - well if you can say that because I'm not ovulating you can't really say I'm 'trying' I'm more 'wanting' . So I'm currently awaiting the next step - whatever the docs decide that is!

Good luck - and baby dust your way!!!

Thanks for your reply hun...

Can't believe they cancelled!! That must have been heartbreaking, hopefully your next appointment isnt too long.

I can understand why you would want to go private, especially after waiting so long...

It was something we were thinking about, but with the wedding cost, and buying a house, its kind of out of the window... just waiting on the NHS

Have you tried Angus Catus (sp?)... Good luck, let us know how it goes with the private hospital

I had a HSG and it was fine except the anaesthetic made me sick for days. Not sure how successful unblocking is as I think the procedure itself can leave scarring but if tubes are blocked at least you know you are a good candidate for IVF. Sometimes you have to go the long way around but hopefully the journey will be worth it for you x

Thanks Camlo... Good point about the procedure causing scarring itself.. i was wondering the same thing, as the tubes are so fragile and delicate..

Worth asking when i do get an appointment... trying to get prepared with the questions i want answering, as i went to see the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic last year, and was in just a daze, i just seat there.. didnt ask anything, and forgot most of the stuff

Cheers Camlo, why did you have the HSG, and what is happening in your process of trying for a baby? xx

Taking a list of questions is really important as I used to turn to mush as soon as I left the house for an appt at the clinic.
I had unexplained infertility, HSG was normal but when still not caught went to Birm infertility clinic and was diagnosed straight away as menopausal. IVF failed and I had a life changing moment where I threw my toys out of my pram and re-evaluated my life. Now several years on I have just married and am expecting my 2nd naturally conceived baby with my fantastic husband. I had a mmc last Oct which nearly shoved me back into the hole but this time i stayed positive and it worked.
Best of luck xxxx

hi, good luck with tests, dunno if you have tried it but a great drug for us pcos sufferers is clomid, it helps you to ovulate, 2 of my 3 were concieved on that, might be worth asking about as its completely non invasive, sorry if you have been down that road it was just a thought xxxxxx

good luck

Thanks Di... I will add that to my notebook.

Its come up a few time in Zita West books and online, but i have been tested for PCSO which was negative, but i my cycles are 21-23days, so want to see having a fairly short cycle affects my ovulations.. and whether Clomid help.

Also thinking about purchasing a digital fertility monitor.... all these new gadgets

Can I ask how old you are?
I did daily temps, cervix & mucus checks and tbh it sent me nutty. Get some tests before you shell out mega cash on fertility monitors as they may be useless for you.

Im 24
Did the temps, but was already pregnant... but didnt know, so the temps were all over the place, and give up on that, then miscarried a few weeks later!!
I've had 5 blood test with the doctors last year, which is being repeated next week..
Then 16 (yes 16!!) blood test at the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic... thought my arm was going to drop off  So now have a reason for the miscarriages (sticky blood).. but in the last 18months we can't seem to get pregnant.

I am considering getting a private scan. The NHS route is so slow and constantly having to chase appointments. I was diagnosed with PCOS and have been trying for a baby for nearly two years with no joy at all I tried ovulation kits and have spent a fortune on pregancy tests all negative negative so depressing.. Assisted pregancy I beleive is my only hope. So this scan is very important. I am nervous about it causing more damage but if my tubes are blocked then Cloimid will only cause a greater risk of eptopic pregnancy. Has anyone else had a good experience going private?
