hi everyone i posted few days ago about my BFP so i made an appointment with the doctors to check all is ok....
she was really rude and hasn't even given me a test to do there and just told me to come back when am 12 weeks...i tried to tell her that i dont even know how many weeks i am and she just said probably 4....
aren't they supposed to do a test at the gp clinic????
the other thing i was worried about is that am going to jamaica in 3 weeks and dont know what cautions i should take.........
she was basically really rude and didnt give me any advice.....((((
has anyone had a similar experience????????

that is terrible hun -

i would ring up and make a booking in appointment with your midwife.

Alot of areas do nuchal fold tests that need to be done between 11 - 14 weeks - so telling you to come back at 12 weeks would be wrong.

With regard to flying - there is alot of different opinions on flying but i think most deam it safe in the first 2 trimesters. I have flown when 6 weeks pregnant and informed them at the desk and i got priority boarding!!!!

I think alot of gps dont do pg tests as the tests we do are pretty conclusive.

Your treatment is terrible so definatley override and make midwife or book in to see another gp.

Good Luck and congratualtions x

I agree with Summer, make an appointment with a midwife. Most places do a scan at 12 weeks. They have to book those in advance! You should be able to phone your surgery and make an appointment with a midwife (ours hold weekly clinics).

Don't worry about them not testing you. They just accept the HPTs here. But they should have registered you as pregnant so that you get the correct treatment.

You'll also get a nice card to send off to the NHS for free prescriptions It was at 10 weeks with my booking in appointment with the midwife that I got that for my first pregnancy.

that is shocking, I'm a nurse albeit in the community, but I would never consider speaking to anyone like that. Whenever a patient comes to see a health professional, they are usually in need of something and they is mostly driven by fear and uncertainty and I think many health professionals should be reminded of that. You have every right to make a complaint via the practice manager, I would be tempted. At the very least, you should book to see someone else. At my big GP surgery, the practice nurses are actually better at handly more than the GP's althught they said they don't usually see PG women until 8 weeks and then ref them to midwifes etc.

(sorry for rant!)

I wish you better luck next time

That's not on. I have to say, my doctors weren't interested at all. I had to self-refer to a midwife who I won;t see until I am 10 weeks but I think you definitely need to have a chat to someone about your hols so you know what you can and can't do x

I would call back ur GP clinic again and ask to speak to someone. its not on, you should be able to feel you can speak to the professionals about your queries and concerns. Hope ur ok hun x

Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance?

thanks so much girls for al your advice i will definitely make another appointment with someone else.....
do you think it would b silly to choose a hospital that is about 40min drive from my house? my very good friend works at UCLH hospital which i heard is one of the best in london for maternity so i know i would be well looked after there but the hospitals near me are not very good......when i asked THAT GP she said it would be very silly to choose a far away one.....
when i asked her about vaccinations for jamaica she told me i should have thought about it before getting pregnant...haha...again very rude!!!
sorry about the rant....am probably just very hormonal......
