Hi all,

due to the neighbours cutting their trees down, my lo's room now gets sunlight 24/7. I'm sure it's why she's sleeping so badly - won't go to sleep, and early waking.

I've tried pegging a blanket up but it keeps falling down!!!

Please can anyone recommend a good blackout blind or curtain. I'm on a tight budget!

Thanks,

I got mine off of ebay if that's any help, much cheaper than new! The ones that I got attach to the back of your existing curtains?

we have blackout blinds from b&Q in both our girls bedrooms (although they are now sharing, dont ask!lol) in the bedroom they are in they have a deep pink and a light pink in the nursery, both are proper blackout,ie you cant see a thing ponce they are down even in the day time!. you can cut them to the size you want and b&q normally have a bin of older colours (pervious seasons stock) of them reduced too!

we got ours from dunelm mill, we thought they would be really expensive but it cost ??19.99 for a 6ft blackout blind, really reasonable and good quality

We looked around for ages after trying a couple of well known blackout blinds for our boys rooms. One of the biggest problems we found in the summer was with their rooms getting very hot (especially with one particular blind), which meant we ended up removing the blinds). We then tried the one that you cut yourself and stick to the window - it was cheap so we thought we would give it a try. It was ok for 2 or 3 weeks but then the material started to crack and had to be taken off.

After going back to sheets for a while I recently found a made to measure blind from a company I found on line after seeing some really good reviews. Had the blackout blind three weeks and it's been brilliant. Not the cheapest in the world but worth every penny as it blocks out almost all the light and has helped the boys (and us!) sleep until 7:30am most mornings!

The name of the company is Sunbuster Blinds(not sure if i'm allowed to put this here?) - I think this is a link to their website http://www.sunbusterblind.co.uk

Definitely worth a look i'd say - Will keep you updated on how it goes!

We got a gro anywhere black out blind (http://www.amazon.co.uk/GroCompany-EFA004-Anywhere-Blackout-Blind/dp/B002B55BNI).

It's intended for travel, but works just as well at home, it has suction cups so it sticks to the window. We didn't need it in the winter so I couldn't see the point of buying a travel one and getting a proper one for the window too

I bought some blackout linings which you fix to your curtains, via the curtain hooks, I think from Rayners - not sure if this is everywhere though. But try a drapers / curtains shop, I used to work in a fabric warehouse and they did different types.

I think we paid about ??20 - 25 but that was about two years ago and they are still up and work wonders. Even now my son's room is very dark as only one small window but have still kept them up. Definitely worth buying though in my opinion!

We've got the gro travel black out blind too, works fine and can be adjusted to most window sizes.

Still waiting for my OH to put up the roller blind (blackout) that we got from IKEA a while back, wasn't that expensive, about ??20, and we have quite a large window x

thats how 1 plus 1 makes 3

For my son's room I chose some blackout roman blinds, very nice looking and affordable too. I got them in made to measure dimensions due to the odd size of the windows and they fitted perfectly.
