Hi ladies,

So lovely to read these forums, so much support and advice out there. I am pregnant for the first time and I am (if the due date calculators are right) 7 weeks pregnant today. I've been feeling pretty good, with a fair spattering of symptoms since about week 4/5 (sore boobs, tiredness, headaches etc) but all felt 'as it should be'. However over the last few days I've notices some spotting after going to the loo (sorry for the TMI!)... there's not been loads and it has varied from dark and mucus-y to fairly bright and thin. There's none ion my underwear, just when I wipe and I haven't been feeling any pain other than the usual - through bloating and wind (again TMI - I know!). nThis is my first pregnancy and I'm reading up everything I can find but there's so much conflicting info out there! Has anyone else had this?! I have my first midwife appointment tomorrow but I gather this will just be basically admin and history-taking but I'm so keen to make sure the baby is ok... do I really have to wait until 12 weeks?! Would really appreciate any advice from anyone who's been in my boat. Unfortunately for me, amongst my friends I'm somewhat of a trailblazer and am the first to get sprogged up and I have no female relatives to talk to about the gory details... EEPS!

Any and all advice gratefully received!

Hi Missmars, congrats on your BFP.

Every pregnancy is truly different & what happens in one may not happen in the next.  Bleeding can happen during pregnancy (some women continue having periods until they give birth) for various reasons (stretching muscles/sensitive cervix/low placenta/implantation bleeds) without meaning bad news.  As long as you aren't doubled over with abdomanal pain you're likely ok.  What you've discribed will likely be an implantation bleed & perfectly normal (my 2nd pregnancy I bled for the 1st 15wks).  Don't be afraid to ask questions when you see your MW (you won't be the first nor the last, even if your questions seem daft or obvious).

It is both scary & exciting carrying your 1st child with nobody truly able to tell you what to expect other than a growing bump ending with a new baby, the rest is truly your own individual journey.  Enjoy a happy, healthy 9mths.

Thank you so much. you have certainly helped put my mind at ease! Now... can I fit in another nap before the MW?
