Hello

I am expecting my 2nd baby in May, when my first daughter will be 2 years and 7 months old.

Can I get away with just having a buggy board do people think?

I'm sure when my step-daughter was that age we never used a pushchair for her, but then we only had her at weekends!

Hi

My daughter was 3(just) when baby came along and she is fine with just buggy board. However, I would say we haven't used a buggy for her at all since she was about 2 as like her walking off her endless energy! Alot will depend on what your little one is used to, if theyve always been using a buggy and you take that away she may feel resentful to the new arrival getting the ride! I made a big deal of the buggy board which she sees as a perk of being a big sister and a great deal easier than what she was doing before baby arrived! Also if you are still using the buggy now maybe stop now before baby arrives so she sees that as normal and not the baby's 'fault'.

Ooh, good idea. I do tend to keep her in the buggy at the minute if we are out shopping or at the zoo or something as it keeps her under control! But maybe I will have to start putting her on reins more often!

On that though I would phase it out rather than all at once... Iz was blue murder to start with shopping- terrible 2s hit at the same time! You've got a while till the baby is due so if you have days when you need her under control then still use the buggy. I think it is so worth it though as by the time your baby comes you ll have nailed it! It is great, Iz can outwalk 90% of her friends of the same age... her nursery have even commented on it!

Hi hun (fellow DIM member here)

My dd will be 2 years and 11 months when this one is born and i'm just going with a buggy board. We havn't used her pushchair now for at least 2 months so i know by the time this one is here she'll be long past it. Not even sure if she'll get use out of a buggy board but i'll get one just in case.

Can't wait to start shopping for prams again!!!

Hi

My son was 29mths was my DS2 came along. I didn't use a double buggy or a buggy board because the pavements where I lived were just not suitable. My DS2 was only a dinky 6lb8oz so I used a baby carrier and pushed my DS1 in the buggy if we were going somewhere that was too far for him to walk.

Hi Kate,

My ds will be 2yrs 9m when bubba arrives (also in May!) and personally I'm going to try the buggy board idea.

My first pram was blimmin expensive and would love to use it for my second.

I like the idea of getting him used to walking a bit more, I do try now but he tends to want to be carried, unless he has a train to hold!! hehe!!

i was wondering the same, but my first will only be 21 months so im thinking it might be a bit too soon?
I can get a buggy board for my (also expensive!) travel system, but at the moment she's a loose cannon and Im not sure if Id be able to restrain her!
I guess its going to be hard to tell till nearer the time.
Ive tried using reigns on her but she just gets annoyed. She's only been walking (although very confidently!) for 3 or so months, so should i just hold off and try again with reigns in a bit?
All ideas very welcome!!!!
