when does the third trimester officially start?

well i am 27 weeks today (hurrah!) and my pregnancy book - What to expect when you are expecting says that i am still in the second trimester until week 28.
However, I received an email from babycentre to say that i am now in my last trimester at week 27.

does anyone know which is correct?
would love to think i am in the last trimester- how excting!!

My pregnancy book says from 29 weeks! I took my final trimester from 27/28 wks. xxxx

We had this discussion in the Feb forum the other day and we all had different answers ranging from 26 weeks to 29 weeks! Sorry, not much help I know! :\)

i thought it was from week 28 when the 3rd trimester started :\?

the logic im using is if you divide 40 by 3 to get each trimester then x it by 2 to get when the 3rd trimester starts and thats 26.6666666 weeks.
so that means roughly about 26+4 if you want to be really picky

*edit* just got myself a ticker (oh I have problems with these :lol: ) and it says I am a day out - why is it everywhere I look the info is different

p.s. looked on bounty & emma's diary websites & they both say 3rd trimester is from 27wks !!!!

i know its so confusing. my mw told me its 29 weeks because the trimsters arent all equal in length.

I'm 24 weeks and I've seen from 26-29 weeks

27 weeks, as I'm currently 26 weeks and all the email updates I get have been saying "you're in the last week of the 2nd trimester" xx

Yeah all my apps and books say 27 I had a good look at them last night
