i am 20wks today and am having my scan next friday we both want to find out the sex, so i thouight this would be the best time to start getting a few bits but the oh thinks its too early. he had a friend that was all ready and lost his baby right at the end, he think we should wait to the last two weeks before i am due and do it all then do you think this is to late??? when do you need to start buying? help??
first time and dont have a clue x x x:\?

Lots of people regard it as bad luck to start buying too soon, but I felt I wanted to be ready. There are quite a few big purchases you will need like cot, pushchair ect so it's nice to stretch out the cost over a few pay packets. I have 11 days to go now and the thought of shopping for the large amount of baby stuff you need is not a nice one. There's always internet shopping. Good luck with the scan, I didn't find out so everything is white for me, easier to wash!

Well I would say that's too late to start buying things, I had my son at 36 weeks, and even a "normal" labour can begin 2 weeks either side of your due date.

I would say start buying at around 30 weeks at the latest.

Hi yeah i agree too.I started buying my babies things straight after 3 months. And it is much easier to spred the cost over ur pay checks.Because it soon all mounts up to quite alot.Im the same as u though i keep feeling guilty incase something happens to my baby right at the end,but thats the risk we take. But all through out my pregnancy i thought something might happen to my baby, like its too good to be true that im having a baby.If that all makes sense.

I bought everything before we even conceived!! Apart from clothes, I bought all them at 20 weeks once we'd found out the sex! I don't take much notice of the luck thing....we've had enough bad luck for a lifetime so I just thought sod it....que se ra se ra!!!

I bought some stuff before I was 12 but only just - I was desperate, and since then (i'm 19 weeks) I've only really bought clothes and a few blankets. I'm ordering my pram though next week and i'm going to get it sent to my mums and when my husband gets his finger out his arse, I want him to start on the bedroom. I think superstition is a pharse as what do you do when your having your second child - burn all your old stuff because it's unlucky to have it in the house? I don't think so. xx

i agree with everyone else, start with little bits and pieces here and there, you can't change what will happen because you've bought things, i started buying the bigger bits when i was about 28 weeks, and left it a little while before going back to buy some more things about 3 weeks ago i'm 36 weeks now and you never know, they say to have your hospital bag packed around 36 weeks in case baby decides to make an early appearance, so why not buy the essentials you need, you can't leave hospital unless you have a car seat!!don;t worry about superstitions i got upset when i was told at 21 weeks it was to soon to buy stuff and cried for about 3 hours and refused to go then calmed down and decided to go after my 24 week check. it's good to be well prepared!! good luck and don't listen to what anyone else says about things being bad luck, it's crap!! i waited til i was 16 weeks but i think some people wait til 20 weeks to see if they can see the sex. it's never too early really as you need to buy so many things. so happy buying.xxx

p.s i think 2 weeks before you're due you won't want to be traipsing round the shops, i struggle with the supermarket!! do it while you've still got lots of energy!! Em xx

just because you buy things for your baby does not mean something will go wrong!! i started buying things after my 20wk scan and only that late cos i wanted to know the sex first. if anything bad is going to happen it will whether you have bought every single little thing or not one item. get as much done while you can still be bothered - im 38 weeks on monday and cant imagine walking round the shops now, and my bump isnt even that big hahaha x x x
