Traces of glucose, protein and leukocytes in urine

I've just come back from a proper shi**y doctors appointment. First the nurse was a bit of a bag, found traces of glucose, prtien and leukolytes in my urine. When I asked what this could indicate she told me that she doesn't know as she's not a midwife and recommended that the sample be sent off for analysis. Then the doctor (who was alright, but not my own) couldn't find the heartbeat, despite using 2 different dopplers and in the end said as the baby was moving it didn't matter and on my notes, basicaly copied what my usual doctor had put at my last appointment apart from putting 'machine broken' in the fetal heartbeat bit - he could have least tried using a stethescope or something! At least my BP is good though!!

Then to top it off, I thought I'd buy a sugary drink as the baby's hardly moved today and I bought Pepsi Max which is sugar free!! - argggghhhhh!!

I know this is a bit of a whinge (sorry), I had a rough night last night and still feeling bleah, but has anyone else had traces of glucose, protein and leukocytes?

I have had protiens in a previous sample and my current sample has leukocytes (this means white blood cells). Both time I was told that this could be a sign there is a urinary infection.

Try not to worry about it as the results come back really quick and both of mine have been negative for any problems.

Understand your need to rant as gp's can be useless currently have my own issues with one who calls me but doesn't know my history and is guessing at things.

Hi arls,

As jodi has said protiens and leukocytes can be a sign of a UTI

Glucose in the urine can indicate diabetes but usually you find ketones in the urine too. Without the ketones it could just be associated with the UTI or a random thing and no need to worry.

Have you had any signs of a water infection? xxx

No, no sign of a UTI, although there could be the beginnings of one I suppose.

Thanks for your replies,

They found leukolytes (sp?) in my urine the other week (3 weeks ago) and said it could be a sign of infection starting, or it can come from (and using midwives words here) "usual vaginal excretions and so on" mmm, yummy! She said sometimes things like that show up for no reason whatsoever but if I showed any signs of infection (which I haven't) then to call her again and she'd retest me.

Perhaps call your mw and ask her to check you over? Expecially with not hearing the heartbeat I'd be annoyed - its one of the perks of traipsing to the doctors!!

I agree with the other ladies & I would be annoyed as you are too, it's not nice when medics are so blase about your pg health & your baby.

I would maybe give your mw a call as well like Garfield says & just explain what happened.

Yeh I had all that show up in my urine and midwife said it could be the start of a UTI, she told me to drink a glass of cranberry juice per day and lots of water. My next sample was clear!!

Very annoying for you not being able to hear bubs heartbeat, I'd be well miffed!!!
