hi, about 3 weeks ago i had to have surgery to remove an ovarian cyst along with my right ovary and fallopian tube, i was 24 + 4 at the time and because of that they had to open me up from directly below my belly button, i have about a 3 inch scar now running down my tummy. when my midwife came to see me at home when i was discharged she told me that 'they' won't let me labour naturally now, i'd have to have a section, but when i asked the midwives on the maternity ward whilst i was still in hospital they seemed to think there shouldnt be a problem. i'm getting worried now cos i really dont want to have to have any more stomach surgery and the last thing i want is to have a caesarian.
it's been really difficult recovering from this, i'm 27+6 now and have a 14 month old son, he's almost walking but i'm not supposed to lift him for 6 weeks, and can't drive for 6 weeks either, i'm finding that i'm really tired too, and just thinking of having to go through a similar type of surgery is going to be much the same again but this time i will have a new baby to look after as well. it probably doesnt help being pregnant whilst recovering from this cos that makes you tired anyway regardless of surgery but does anyone know of anyone who had anything similar in pregnancy go on to have a natural birth?? please help getting really worried now!! Hiya hun,
My cousin is only 14wks but she had the same surgery as you a couple of weeks ago and was told she can have a normal birth maybe you should ask for an appointment with your consultant and talk to him about your worries because he will be able to tell you your options and whats best for you and the baby. I had a c section when I had Holly and it honestly wasn't that bad after I felt 100% again within 7-10 days. I think being tired is a natural part of being pregnant, I was permanantly exhausted and I wasnt running around after a toddler!!
Good luck hun but I deffo think your consultant is the one to talk to, even to put your mind at rest xxx

Hi tallulahlola
I'd speak to your gp/get a 2nd opinion. I didn't have that type of surgery, I had a 10cm abscess removed from my labia at 5/6months preg. The incision ran most of the length of my labia/side of vagina, and was left open to drain, so took weeks and weeks to heal, but I was still allowed to give birth naturally. I was worried about it healing in time, or coming open if I tore during labour because of my baby putting pressure on it etc. Maybe you should discuss the procedure you had with your gp and see what the reasons are for a section. Don't rest until your happy you have answers to all you questions x x

Hi Tallulahlola,

I don't know if this will help but i'm a student nurse and have assissted on cases like this and usually they will let you labour naturally, but they will monitor you more closely as a small chance you could rupture. But most mums go on to be fine, look at all the mums who have csections and then have natural it's just the same. xxx

thanks for the replies, i have a consultant appointment next week its actually for growth scan but hopefully i will get to see the same guy i saw when i was in hospital, and will ask him then. maybe midwife said it would be a c-section cos it's so close to when baby is due compared to if you were to have a caesarean then a natural birth for a second child, mine is only a matter of weeks, whereas if it was ceasarean then a natural birth there would be at least 9 months(or so i would think!!!) which is obviuosly a lot longer to heal completley. just absolutley terrified of having to have surgery again so soon, it was bad enough this time but i knew it had to be done, as if it had been left i think i would have gone into premature labour. the cyst was the size of an orange by the time they found it and it took over 2 weeks for them to find out what was wrong!!
