Sorry girls - this is a stupid moan i know but i am really stressing out!!! I did a post the other day saying how my midwife is only at the surgery on Thursdays 12-2 - I have told my boss my appt is next week and she has said cant i rearrange it for another day??? I knew this was going to happen....what am I meant to do.....I have the midwife yelling at me telling me its my right and that it will harm the baby if i dont go and my boss telling me it is inconvenient....i am so fed up.....x

Is she the only midwife at your surgery?

Dont stress babes, thats the last thing you need.

I would ask your boss for a quiet word and calmly explain the situation. If you could re-arrange the appointment, you would do you best to do so, but it is out of your hands.

If she gets funnym I would then go to HR or her boss.

Your employer legally has to give you time off work for antenatal appointments so really, it is tough luck on them! I understand you must feel awkward as your boss has made it clear it is inconvenient but at the end of the day, you must attend your antenatal appointments regardless of how "inconvenient" it is for your boss. Explain to your boss that your mw only runs clinics on a Thursday between 12-2 so, no, it isn't possible to rearrange it, they will have to lump it!

Good luck sorting it out, and dont get yourself stressed about it, it really isnt worth it hun, just explain things exactly as they are. Hope you get it sorted soon.

hi your boss has to give you the time off work wether they like it or not! if you mw is only there on a thurs at a certain time then you cant do any thing about it you have given enough notice. Also i wouldn't delay an appt it could be ages befor your mw can fit you in again your baby comes first.
Wishing you luck and i hope you can both come to an agreement Hannah x

Hun this happened to me so I got all info I needed of internet and told her it was my legal right for paid time off for antinatal care and that if she wanted I would bring her a medical certificatre from midwife comfirming that I had been with her, don't let it stress you hun, at the end of the day you are in the right!

hi hun your boss has no rights to tell you to make another appointment she has got to be flexible with you that is the law, if she continues to be like this you need to go to citizons advice and take it further.
13/03/2009 at 10:18
Fuck them if its inconvenient hun, by law they have to give you paid time off whenever you need it. The only thing they can ask for in return is a note from your midwife to prove the appointment existed. If she wont budge on this one go to HR and hopefulyl they will put her straight. if not I would confide in ACAS or your trade union if shes going to be continually difficult. If thats the only time you can see your midwife then so be it, every single appointment Ive had so far has been in work time and I have to walk 20 mins to the docs and 20 mins back on top of the time I spend with my midwife and my employers haven't batted an eyelid

Good luck

Hey hun! Sorry you're having a rough time. It's so hard when your employer makes things difficult for you. It's a stressful enough time as it is!!
I have to agree with everyone else though hun, it is your right to have paid time off for antenatal care and it's just unfortunate that the midwives clinic runs in works time but that is NOT YOUR FAULT.
Get the surgery to do you an appointment card with the date & time of your appointment and hand it to your boss, you've given her plenty of notice, it's not like you've just dropped it on her on the day of the appointment. You have been perfectly reasonable. She by law has to allow you to go and not make your life difficult because of it.
I really feel for you as it can't be easy but as the others have said, you've got to put you and baby first.
Good luck sweetie

Ahhh screw ya boss hunni can you ask your midwife to write to her? maybe that'll shut her up if shes had it offical and in writing you're entitled to that time off, if needs be pull the 'are you asking me to harm my baby just to suit you' okay its not an ideal thing to say to a boss i'm so sick of managements right now their all a pain in the ass!!! (my OH is having probs with his) best of luck!
