I took last Tuesday off work as I was really sick. Now I'm salaried, but based on a certain number of hours, if i work under the hours I get paid less each week.
Now to make up my wages, I've been paid holiday pay-is it write that they are using my holiday entitlement to bump my pay, or am I entitled to a certain amount of time off sick during pregnancy whilst it not affecting my wages?

was it pregnancy related?

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

sick pay is the same whther pregnancy related or not, so however ur sick pay works when not pregnant applies to when u are, iyswim? however u can not be penalised for taking too much sick leave if pregnant related. hth x

Just wanted to point out in case any other ladies are interested, if you are off work sick in the 4 weeks before the baby is due, your employer has the right to automatically start your maternity leave, even if you intended to work right up to the last minute! xx

huni, i 'think' thats only if its preg related, if u've got flu for example, they can't enforce ur mat leave, but if ur off with a preg related illness then they can enforce it, like u say xx

If you got paid sick pay before then it should be the same if your pregnant. But if you never got paid sick pay then they dont have to start paying you now x x

I don't think they should use your holiday entitlement to bump up your pay.

You qualify for SSP if you've had 4 consecutive days off. If you only have 1-3 then you don't get anything. It's up to your employer if they 'bump up' your pay to your salaried amount (whether you've recieved SSP or not). Unfortunately it completely to their discression!

Where i work we are allowed a number of sick days per annum, so if i were to have one day off sick then they would make up my pay to my salary. If by the end of the year i've used up all my allocated sick days then i won't be paid for it. I suppose i could choose to use it as a holiday day (if i had any days left) but that would be up to me.

This is how it work where i'm employed.
