Definitely worth it babe! I was diagnosed with polysystic ovary syndrome so had very irregular periods had ultra sound and they found a cyst on one of my ovaries, we were also seeking fertility treatment so was having regular trips to hospital. I wasnt feeling very well one day and booked in to see doctor to get some antibiotics thought it was tonsilitus. Hadnt done pregnancy test for 3 months as thought it was highly unlikely would get pregnant as had only had one period in 5 months. Anyway sorry im waffling i did test came up positive but on test it said an ovarian cyst can give a false reading. At an ultra sound scan i had booked for next day due to cyst the sonographer said she saw what could of been a pregnancy sac but my dates from my one and only period suggested i would be 5 weeks pregnant so no heartbeat at this stage. The fertility clinic congratulated me on my pregnancy but i still didnt beleive it. Even though i started throwing up at the end of that week you do doubt yourself and i thought i was making myself feel that way. My original booking in with midwife was 8 weeks and my first scan was at nearly 15 weeks! I just burst into tears it was like an emotional rollercoaster with the not knowing. Also didnt want to tell any one until it had been confirmed but it was so difficult as i was being sick all the time. We decided to pay private for a scan at ten weeks as i couldnt keep it a secretanylonger. We went to a place called MUMS which was recomended by my midwife. I dont know if they are just midland based, but i had what they refer to as a dating scan the cost was ??75 it lasted half an hour and you got photos and a video could pay extra for dvd. Best day of my life as we told everybody that afternoon. They used to call your dating scan a 12 week scan butthey are putting them back further and further on the nhs due to a baby boom!! However this babyboom is actually a foreign baby boom as apparently the birth rate in british parents is on the decline, sorry personal grievance . Hope this has helped you justify the cost x
