Private health insurance for baby

Hi,

I have private health insurance through work which I can add dependants too. I really want to add the baby before birth to ensure cover right from the start if anything was required for either of us.

HR have been useless and don't seem to know if this is possible. I just wanted to ask if any of you ladies have insured an unborn baby and if so, how do you go about doing this?

Many Thanks,

Jess

Hi Jess, I don't know the answer for sure but I would very much doubt this is possible. Due to corporate bureaucracy I would imagine that a birth certificate would be required to add the baby. I will try and find out more as I need to get hubby to add our baby to his x

Hi Jess

I was wondering the same thing! Glad you posted this :\) Will be interested to see what others say.

Also, does anyone know if baby can have their own policy or if they have to be added to an adults? (as at the moment neither my husband or I have private health ins but we deff want baby to).

Love NN 27 weeks today! xxx

When I had PHI with a previous employer we could only add dependents once a year. I would imagine you would certainly have to have a birth certificate to add a child to a policy.

I wouldn't worry too much, if there are, god forbid, any probloems which require immediate treatment, this would ALWAYS be done on the NHS. Private hospitals don't have emergency medical facilities, they have their place for non-urgent investigation and treating non-urgent problems where there might be a longer wait on the NHS, but for paediatrics/neonates, NHS is where it's at.

My DD needed emergency treatment after birth and the NHS were amazing, I could not have asked for better treatment.
