Opinions on names..

Hi Ladies

I've got about 5 weeks to go and we've struggled all along to 'fall in love' with any names. After spending hours trawling the name books we've come up with a short (ish) list for boys and girls names (I've managed to resist temptation of finding out the sex)!

Anyhow... I feel like we have got so bogged down in names that our judgement has become clouded. We really want to keep our names private from family/friends so I'd love your opinions on them?

We found in the early days when we were telling family names that we liked some would love a name and some would hate it - whilst I wouldn't let this sway us too much I kinda don't want to know if someone close preferres another name! It's so tru that people never criticise the name once baby is here!

Sorry for big rant! Here's our shortish list....

BOYS
Owen James
Luke Owen
George Owen
Joshua George

GIRLS
Annabelle Rose
Olivia Rose
Claudia Rose
Emma Rose

All opinions welcome - be as honet as you like!

I honestly like them all! But if I had to pick then Joshua is my favourite for a boy and Olivia Rose for a girl. There's no harm in keeping your list and seeing which suits baby when he/she arrives though, you don't have to decide right now hun xx

Thank you! I'm hoping baby just 'suits' one of them most but I'll probably be exhausted and on a high and end up picking something bizarre!! Lol.

I like them all but Luke is a favioute for a boy (my oh doens't like it though :\( ) and Olivia or Claudia for a girl.

Huni is right though just take your list in with you.

When we had my ds we had 2 names for him and only decided after he was born (in the recovery room) what he would be called and have loved it ever since. The funny thing is we are having another boy and since have decided we don't like the other name on our list any more .

Try not to worry I'm sure they will tell you what to call them when they get here.

Good luck.

I really love anabelle for a little girl. If my bump was pink that'd be on my list, though hubby isnt keen! I'm not a fan of Claudia. But all the rest, and all of the boys names I think are lovely

My favourites are Owen James and Olivia Rose. I like them all though but I wouldn't go for Luke Owen just because it reminds me of the Wilson brothers. I think taking the list in with you would be the best bet as the other girls have said! Good luck choosing!!x

I have to say I think thy're allr eally nice names but my favourite ones are Owen James for a boy and Annabelle Rose for a girl.

With DD1 we too had a lsit of names which we picked from once she arrived to make sure that whatever we chose suited her (although didn't know we were having a girl so had a boys list as well) xxx

All lovely names but if i had to pick one of each i would say Owen James for a boy and Olivia Rose for a girl. x

I like them all but think I like George and Olivia best - i really like Olivia but it doesn't sound right with our surname. In all honesty I'm not sure about Claudia, but that might just be because I don't know or know of any.
.
You're right, hopefully people will be polite about the name once baby is here - and then you've no need to tell anyone the alternatives to hear whether they prefer them.

Personally I don't want to choose a name for definite until lo is here, in case she doesn't suit it but everyone has sort of got used to it already

Hiya

Lovely names, we are having similar dilemnas about names, altho have got loads of girls names just boys we are finding tough!

My only comment would be Owen James could be shortened to OJ (I try to think of every alternative as I had a ridiculous comedy name til marreied as my parents didn't think thru nicknames)

And of the girls Claudia would be my least favourite, I like names with lots of options for shortening (altho like I said I am obsessievly checking ALL of them) as the child grows and ages

Good luck

I would have to say Luke and thats my little boys name and Emma rose for a girl.

All of them are lovely names! My favourites are Olivia/Annabelle and Joshua/George. I'm sure as soon as you meet your little one for the first time a name will just fall into place

i love annabelle thats what we will have if its a girl and more than likely Joshua. Good choices. xx

I really like Joshua George and Olivia Rose xx
24/05/2010 at 16:25
Calleigh that made me laugh about Annabelle/kitten! I really like Olivia but am stering away from it because of that very reason - it is just so popular at the moment. I really want a 'normal' name ie nothing too cool but one where there wont be another 5 in the same class!

I'm really appreciating all your comments ladies. xx

I'm in a similar position to you hun.

I'll probably be induced so have about 4 - 5 weeks left so pretty much same amount of time as you and we haven't got a single name chosen so you're a little bit ahead of us there

For me I think Owen James sounds really strong for a baby growing into a child growing into a man.

And it would have to be Claudia Rose for a girl. I adore the name Claudia but OH no-no'd it, but saying that he's no-no'd everything I've suggested!

Like the others have said you've got a really nice list of names there. I'd take a break from them now till you're holding you're lo in your arms and see which name feels right.
