Hiya
At what stage should i get mesured for nursing bras? And where is the best place to go? Mothercare? Im 35 + 2 weeks. Have i left it too long? I cant remember when i got measured last time but i do know that my breasts had grown much more than they have this time. In fact they dont seam much bigger at all should i be worried about my milk not coming in? i realy realy want to breastfeed so much.
Thanks for any help!

hi emmybump,

i got my maternity bras at mothercare and the service was great - the bras have been really comfy - so im going to get my nursing bras there too. They told me they wouldnt do it before 36 weeks so plan to go end of next week with my mum to be fitted. I know your boobs grow when your milk comes in so i guess they have to leave a bit of room for that but my maternity ones are getting tight now so i feel ready!

I work with breastfeeding mums and when someone has had milk before, it will come again, your body already knows what to do. I know it sounds gross but have you tried hand expressing to see if there is a drop there? Its not advisable to do much of it at this stage but i did express slightly, just so i saw a drop, it made me feel better, where theres some more will follow! Definately dont go mad though, its a bit early for labour til we hit the 37 week mark

Hi Alfie,
thanks for replying.
I took your advice and got a drop from each so i guess the milk will come in, just prehaps not as quick as last time! In fact im sure i had to wear breast pads at around this stage last time as i was leaking....
anyway, i shall pop to mothercare this weekend, i will be just over 36 weeks then so hopefully they will measure me and like you said, they must allow for the milk coming in.
Thanks again !

I am 38 weeks and measured myself had only gone up one inch on strap size from 34d to 36d got one from debenhams and one from matalan. Love the one from debenhams black padded really comfy wearing it already. Probably good idea to get measured but I haven't really changed at all in this area.

I am tempted to measure myself too, but wouldnt know how much extra room to allow for when milk comes in!? so tricky. Think it's going to have to be mothercare as i dont know anywhere else near me that does it.

ladies its so important to get measured! They really know what they're doing and your boobs are too important not to get sorted properly. You don't want mastitus or sagging! Neither sounds very appealing :/

I got measured up today (36 weeks) they just left a little bit of room for milk coming in. Got some nice pink and black slightly lacy ones, they're pretty and in a double pack for ??30. She told me not to go crazy in case the feeding doesnt work out so just got the two but if the feeding does work out im sure ill be leaking on them and will need lots more. My mum at least knows my size and which ones i like so she'll be heading there for me if necessary! x

ok so off to mothercare tommorrow then!! Im 36 weeks today so should be the right time i take it. I like the advice of just getting a couple to start with, probably would have gone mad otherwise!

but you definately need to let someone know your size and which ones you've tried on and liked, in case they need to go out and make a quick purchase for you. x

Nursing bra buying advice: Nursing bras look like regular bras, but the cups open or lower from the front when you unsnap, unzip, or unhook the closure. You should be able to open the cup for nursing quickly and simply with one hand. (You'll be holding your hungry baby with the other.)
