to be honest i just ate a good dinner once i was in labour before i went to the hosptial and didnt bother after that [didnt have time anyway] would recommend a drink you can take while room temp like water etc as coke can dehydrate you but then again it gives you a wee lift, not sure hun, take what you would normally drink. xxx

My NCT lady has recomended Jaffa cakes. They have energy and can help fill you up a little bit. Also has chocolate which is always good!

Other than that I would go with things you like. Maybe cereal bars?

I had brunch bars- get all the energy from the nuts seed ect and then chocolate for a fast boost of energy. They also made me eat whilst i was in labour

I just got some things which I really like, which are lots of go ahead fruity bake bars, lots of mini cheddars and cartons of orange/apple juice! It's the best compartment in my bag :P haha

Ok, i've been told that once in active labour they won't let you eat and recommend you eat at home before going to hospital. Anyway in my bag i have lucozade, water, flap jacks, tracker bars and some biscuits. The snacks for me will be more for after the birth.

I've been thinking about this already, I get really grumpy if I don't have food about my person at all times!

I do triathlons and have to fuel myself for up to 6.5 hours of racing at a time with stuff that's high energy and easily digestible. So I've been thinking about giving birth as a similar endurance event! During a I race I usually eat malt loaf, flapjacks and energy bars. I was also thinking about taking a couple of sachets of gels (they are fruit flavoured and you take them with water) so if I'm not allowed solids I don't go hungry!

I had a massive bag of snacks which were great to have while I was waiting to be induced and after the birth (when I was ravenous!!) but my midwife didn't let me eat during the labour in case it made me sick.

Pack all your favourite things - healthy AND unhealthy! xx

I took my fav things - crisps, biscuits, sweets! Also took some cereal bars, crackers etc. But mostly I thought I'd treat myself to yummy things. As it turned out I has no appetite when I was in labour. I ate a slice of toast before we went to hospital but it took about an hour of me forcing a mouthful in every 5 mins!

The food was a lifesaver after the birth though. I was starving.
