Morning ladies,

I found out I was pregnant on Thursday using a clearblue digital test which said I was 1 - 2 weeks, which I think means I'm actually 3-4 weeks?

In the run up to testing, I have suffered from period style cramping during the day. Both nights since taking the test I have woken up during the night with really bad cramps, and then (sorry, tmi coming your way!) had to have a really big poo, with a little dihorria. The cramping is very painful during the night, and I am bent over in pain. I can't think i'm eating/doing anything differently than normal, taking my pregnacare like normal etc. Has anyone else suffered from this? Is it normal, or a bad sign? Is there any painkillers that I am allowed to take, that will help the cramping? Will this stop anytime soon? I have my first docs appointment next Monday.

Hi Rucky. Congrats! Not sure abut the cramps (although what I will say is that your body gets up to some weird stuff when pregnant!). It might not even be related. I had the Norovirus (winter vomiting bug) between xmas and NY and still get the odd episode like you describe - think it's the last of the bug working its way out (no oun intended!). The doc will be able to advise but in the meantime make sure you are drinking enough so youn don't become dehydrated. You can take paracetamol too but no other painkillers.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Hun
I had exactly the same kind of cramps in the middle of the night. They would wake me up and I would have to sit on the side of the bed bent over in pain and it would last for a minute or two. I think as long as they are not constant they are quite normal and it is just your bean snuggling in. If you do get concerned just contact your gp.

Oh thank you ladies..ive been googling and it seems that it's common-ish! The cramps go as soon as I've had a number 2. But they are the same type of cramps as when i have cramps during the day. Jeeesss, they are sore!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Your digestion slows down when you're pregnant, so it sounds like it's actually your digestive system playing aroud with you! I had pains after having a bowel movement in early days and when I saw my GP she said it was actually pain from my bowel and not my uterus - apparently it's hard to distinguish!

If it continues for too long then I would mention it to your doc but I doubt it's anything to worry about, just another pregnancy niggle.

Wishing you a healthy and happy 9 months!
