Just trying to get organised - is there any preference re cotton wool pads or balls or does it not really matter?

Thanks,

I used wipes for nappy changes but balls for washing as they are easier for me than the pads

I found the large pads the best and could lie one on his wee bits incase he peed. I also used wipes but did try and do the water thing as it meant to be better for their skin.

I used balls for first month or so for nappy changes and still for cleaning eyes etc.

Balls are cheaper! But make sure you get the large ones (it'll say large on the bag), the little ones are a waste of time. Pads are better once they get a bit bigger, but balls are fine for a newborn. Pleats are ok too - but I recommend Sainsburys, Boots ones just shed all over your carpet!

I find pads a lot easier, when you wet the balls and squeeze them out they disappear to almost nothing. What is actually best is the big rolls then you can tear off a wadge as big as you need (especially good for messy poos!)
When they are a little bit bigger and their skin isn't as delicate wipes are just easier all round!!

Pads don't levae bits behind! They are great for the face but forget them for the bum etc as its a waste of time. The MW in the hospital threw a pack of wipes at my husband when he was trying to clean lo up after his 2nd nappy with cotton wool!! x

Pads! Before Cameron was born, I stockpiled balls by the box load. Waste of effort and money. No matter which brand I used, they shed bits everywhere. Drove me insane, And has already been mentioned, they disappear to nothing when wet. I use a mix of large and small pads, depending on what I'm cleaning up!! Boots' large ones are quite expensive, but Waitrose much cheaper. I also use Mothercare little muslin squares for washing him.

Ooo this has answered my question was going to ask what to use in begining as seen suggested cotton wool balls but i detest them really! (work in childcare) Seeing as many of you recommend wipes i will use these for bum and cotton wool for top n tailing! x

I would say pads, I work in beauty and have used both and I find that cotton balls tend to leave bits behind where as pads dont. However agree with other girls wipes maybe easier.

I never use dry cotton wool, it only sheds when it is dry, use it wet to clean them and then use a muslin to pat them dry. As long as they are clean when you dry them with the muslin you can use it for all your nappy changes that day and it also means if they wee everywhere you have got something to chuck over them while they are weeing to stop it going everywhere and then to clean it up with.

Hi,

Think I will try big cotton wool balls and large pads. My midwife said not to use wipes until later on. I will just make sure the cotton wool is wet like Miss Impatient said!

i would say cotton balls are the best ones but make sure u use them in warm water 1st as there a nitemare dry and can make baby dry!!
i wouldnt use wipes yet its far too early,it annoys me when people use wipes on newborns as they dont no hoe there babys skin is gunna react, newborns skin is very delacate and deisereves to be treated better then that!!

id say 4wks onwards for wetwipes and i use johnsons for mine

Pads are the best! The pleats are rubbish as they leave bits behind. We did the cotton wool and water for about 3 weeks before moving on to wipes. xxx
