Hi ladies,

Im a bit confuzzled by the amount of different cot mattresses there are on the market and wondered what the usual/norm is for a baby to have. Ive been on the guides they have on mothercare website but none of them say which is the best etc. I want a good quality one but dont want to pay through the nose for something I dont necessarily need.

Has anyone any tips or recommendations?
Sarah.

When I had my DD I went to babies are us and spoke to someone there. I ended up buying a reversable one (2 different materials one either side and waterproff) and paid about ??80 for it. They are really good in babies are us and had about 6 different ones at the time x

Thanks wannababy, Im heading there next week to look at cots again so I'll ask them. I guess Im always a bit wary of asking in specific shops as they're bound to want to sell you their types but just knowing the general differences will help.

It is confusing!!

I think there are:

Foam only - will probably loose shape more quickly
Coil spring - will keep shape longer than foam
Pocket sprung coil spinrg - keeps shape even longer again!

There are then different materials and layers inside the mattress to keep it breathable!

In the end I went for this one...

But got it from Argos for only ??84, rather than ??140 (think it might be a slightly older model)

Don't know if it helps, but my mum bought a ventilated foam one when she had me, and it lasted through my sister and my brother as well! The only reason she's not using it when my lo is born is because it's too old!
I'm going to buy ventilated foam

we couldnt afford to spend a lot on a cot mattress when we had Lola and i got the foam one from argos, it was about ??40.
Im getting the same mattress for this baby. It never lost its shape and i think Lola was in the cot about 17 months and its still in mint condition but will still get a new one.

Id love to have a luxury mattress but our money is needed for other bits.

I bought a foam one for the crib as will not be using it for long.
