Hi

Can anyone tell me what an adverage blood pressure reading should be at 34 weeks. I have just been to the doctors and they wrote it in my notes and said everything was fine and i have just got home and looked at my notes and am confused. I know i should have asked while i was there. and i know everyones blood pressure is difference but if anyone has a rough guide and also can tell me what the top number means and what the bottom one does.

Many Thanks

Normal blood pressure is about 120/70. The top one can be between 100 and 160 before its considered high or low. The top is the first sound the midwife can hear and the bottom is the last. First sound is when the heart contracts and pushes blood into the aorta. Second is the ejection of blood into the arteries and the resulting pressure. It can be affected by lots of things.

Hope this is helpful. Im a student nurse x

Thats brilliant thank you so mine today was 115/80 so i guess thats normal and the doctor would have said something if it wasnt. Its just that everytime i have it taken it seems to have gone up slightly.

You maybe just normally have low blood pressure. I do. Mine is now usually between 110 and 120 over 60, quite high for me. x

I'm at Leeds and just finished year 2 in January, 2 down, 1 to go! I wanted to do a few clinical hours (seeing as it was in neurosurgery theatres and I could sit down!) and carry them over to September when I go back but they wouldn't let me, they are sooo unflexible. When is your baby due?

Im due 15th March. I had same problems. Wanted to get as much done before as possible but uni really unflexible. They wouldn't let me do the degree module while I was on mat leave. Its theory and you're only in one day every two weeks so would have been manageable. Now I have to do it when I go back while im on placement at same time. Oh well, have to cope somehow. When you due? x

Blood pressure below 120 over 80 (120/80) is the ideal blood pressure for people wishing to have good health.
