Anyone else travelling this Christmas? - Pregnancy

We're going from Notts to Surrey tomorrow to spend Christmas with my parents. Am really worried about travelling in these conditions, especially as the thought at being stuck in a car for hours at 26+5 is not my idea of fun, but really want to go. My parents have had a rubbish time of it lately and need some tlc.

We're taking food, blankets, shovel, hot ribena in thermos and a torch.....can anyone think of anything else we should take? If it gets too bad we will probably turn back (have a chicken in freezer just in case!) but do hope we'll get through.

Please keep your fingers crossed for us. Is anyone else braving the roads?

Good luck on the roads - don't forget to tuck your seatbelt under you bump, though I'm sure you know that already. Me and oh are going to be battling the rush hour of everyone trying to leave London - we are going by train though from Kings Cross which is just going to be so busy, I'm not looking forward to it, thank goodness we have seats booked.

Looking forward to seeing my lo though as she has been up there since school finished last week.

Take care on the roads everyone. Im in the frozen north in central Scotland and ive been pretty much in the house all week;. Dont have anywhere i have to go so staying put!!!

Drive carefully, stay back from the cars in front and stick to the main roads

We went to chester when i was about 5 months this time last year! Unfortunatly we broke down just over halfway there! I had to stand in the freezing cold waiting for the rac to recuse me!

It was awful, coz they had to tow us and kept having to change drivers for different areas! We had set off at 8 and was 5 by the time we got home!

Then we go in OH car and did it all again!

You will be fine just make sure you have your comforts with you and be prepared!! Have a lovely time!

last november i moved back to the uk from belgium at 26week pregnant. wasn't the most comfortable of experiences as its a 5 hour drive to the ferry then an hour wait at ferry in car, then 1.5hour on boat. all i can say is stop every couple of hours to stretch ur legs and get some fresh air. stick to speed limmts obviously, maybe take a cushion for under ur bum? lol xxx

Phoenix - i live in Surrey and the roads here aren't bad at all - we have no snow and it's been raining this evening so too mild for ice yet (although might change over night i guess)
You should be fine once you hit the M25 as it's the smaller roads in the south-east (around J21 - J16) that are more affected but that stretch of the motorway is 50mph speed limit anyway

not sure about the M1 but it's potentially still bad around Luton at least

Hi hon, g/c here, but we live in Kent, and generally get the weather about an hour after Surrey (if that makes sense? weather generally blows in from the West). It has been v v bad over the last few days in the South East, but it is getting better now! We had been completely snowed in (LOL!!) for the last few days (we are in a little village), But tonight it is raining, and the roads are ok. Think it will probably be ok tomorrow in the South East - but I'm not sure about Notts/Midlands where you are?

Pack big coat, wellies, thermos, food and make sure you have full tank of petrol and charged mobiles. We have cancelled long-standing arrangements over the last few days, as we were so snowed in, but it is ok here now and I would feel ok travelling tomorrow.
