I had 2 anti d injections (29 & 35 weeks) and it was at the very top of my leg. It hurt a bit but wasn't as bad as I was expecting - no worse than having blood taken.

After the birth they will take a sample of your lo's blood from the cord and if the lo is rhesus positive then you'll get another injection. My lo was rh negative so I didn't have to have another anti-d fortunately!

Hope that helps

Hiya, I had mine done at 29 weeks (was supposed to be 28 but they mucked it up) and it was in my upper arm. Is a bloody long needle but more numb than anything - having blood taken is more painful!! They told me to wait 20 mins after I'd had it in the hospital but I just went home as I was fine and didnt even notice where the needle had gone in. If you had a BCG then it is nothing like that...doesn't leave a scar or anything.

In my area they do anti-D at 28 weeks (a more concentrated dose...) but in most areas they do 28 & 34 weeks with a normal dose. If your lo is rh + then you'll need it after the birth as well xxx

It's to do with blood groups, if your rhd negative but your baby is rhd positive then you need anti-d injections to stop your blood attacking your babies

Hey girls!!!

I am going for my second anti D. Mine was in the bum. The needle did not hurt but the liquid going in actually hurt a little..

You will know that you are rhesus negative newrly straight away after you first blood tests. I hadmy injections at 30 and another at 36. I was with my GP today and he said he thinks that should be it. No more after that. I prefer blood being taken than the injection. It's a very tiny needle. But it hurts cause the liquid stings....

Not too bed though...

I had anti d in my bum at 28 weeks which was fine and then another injection at 34 weeks but that time it was in the top of my thigh and it hurt more in my thigh than my bum. More fat on my bum which may have helped!!

Hello, I had my anti - d injection at 28 weeks and got another next week when I will be 34 weeks. This is my first baby also.

As its an intramuscular injection it can be done in either the arm or bottom. Im guessing it must be midwife preference. Mine was done in the arm by a student midwife. I just think of the worst pain ever then when the needle goes in i know the pain wont actually be that bad in comparison! I could feel the needle go in but that was it.

I was a bit sceptical (however sp?) about the student doing it, but she was very good. In fact she took my blood that day, and in comparison with the sister midwife who took my blood yesterday for my gtt the sister was awful. The sister didnt tell me i was going to feel a prick, yanked it out again after taking the blood. First time it hurt and gave me a big fat bruise! Latter part not relevant but needed to moan!

So in other words, if you get a student dont worry!

Im sure you will be fine princess jane. I believe you also get one at birth. Just make sure you relax and dont tense your muscle. If you TENSE your muscle it WILL hurt. xxx
