Alton towers in the first trimester?

I'm going away with my family in a few weeks time and they've all planned a trip to Alton Towers. There is no backing out so I have to go. I obviously don't plan on going on any fast or dangerous ride (any of the fun rides I should say cos I love roller-coasters) like air, oblivion, nemesis etc etc . I'm more than happy to sacrifice this for my baby though! There are lots of anecdotal evidence of women in their first trimester going on rides before they knew about their abby but know that I know I just wouldn't want to expose myself to any risk, even though it would *probably* all be fine. However, I'm still going to go to the park as it is a rare chance to spend a fun day with my family and we've got bargain tickets. I haven't told them all our exciting news yet but think this would be the perfect opportunity to do so, so that I can do it face to face (they live far away) and so they understand why I'm being a wimp!

Are there any safe rides that I can go on? Or is it just Squirrel Nutty? Please don't tell me that is out!! Would I be able to queue up for the bigger rides with my family but then cross across the ride when they sit on it or would I have to wait somewhere else with all the bags? What other things can I do in the park if I can't go on rides?

Thanks!

We haven't been for ages but exchanged some tesco vouchers just before i got my BFP so all thrill are out for me too, we are hoping to take our daughter when kida are back at school and i was hoping to go on rides with her, she's 2, so I'm hoping that's not out the question.

regarding queing though, yes you can still queue and cross the ride at the end, there are lots of people who do that if you have bags you cross over and put them in the wire racks and come back to ride.

regarding other things to do, there's the gardens, sky-rides, amusements, fair style stalls and lots more tame rides like boating etc, try their website, gonna go on myself. x

Its been a few years since I've been but I am pretty sure there are a range of safe rides you can go on depending what you like. Remember a horror / shot you up on and some water ride that did not knock you about too much. As you said though it will just be fun to spend the day with family.

As for queing and then not riding again I can not see an issue as there are penlty of people who queue decide they can not do the ride and just don't go on, so you could always do this.

Hope you havea great time with your family and if you are concerned why not contact the park and ask their advice.

I went to Alton Towers a few years ago when I was about 6 months pregnant. There was only one 'adult' ride that I could go on, didn't do much, you sat in a carriage and shot at things! I had a great day though, and the sky ride was really good. I went to the Pleasure Beach in Blackpool this year when I was only about 5 weeks pregnant and didn't risk going on anything, I read that the first trimester is actually the worst time to go on rides. I really wasn't sure so I just didn't bother. Again though I still had a really good day with the family

I know it's a bit more exotic but we went to Florida this year & I had just found out I was pg.

I didnt go on anything really but still had fun. My mum doesnt really like the big rides so I had her for company most of the time & the rest of the time was ok as my nephew was just under a year so I got to look after him while we waited for everyone else.

I did go on a couple of flume rides which were ok as they wernt bumpy, funny though what with hormones and all I came off a flume ride & started crying LOL!!

Have fun xx
