Hi Ladies,

I am 36 and we are trying for baby #2. My DS was conceived in our second month of trying when I was 33. However, we are in month six now and I am starting to get really worried about all the statistics about how women's fertility drops rapidly from 35 yo onwards.

Would like to know what your experiences are? Need some positivity.

Many thanks :\)

Hi and welcome!

I really hate how the media - and medics - make such a big deal about us 'older' mums having trouble conceiving, and that it's our own fault for leaving it too late. Blah blah blah.

My story:
At 37, having been trying for 18 months without a sniff of a BFP, that we'd never conceive naturally and IVF was our only option. I was too old for NHS treatment, so we saved the pennies and went private.
Worked first time, and our son was born when I was 38 (and 4 months!). He's just had his 1st birthday.

At the beginning of this year, we decided to start saving for more IVF so we could try having another child. Whilst doing that, I borrowed a friend's Clearblue Digital Fertility Monitor. It'd worked for her and she passed it on. I thought I could monitor my cycle to pass the time before IVF.

Well, blow me, the monitor told me when I was fertile and we conceived the first month of using it! At 39 (and 6 months), I am 10wks pregnant. This baby is due when I'll have just turned 40.

Hope that's a bit of positivity for you

Thanks, oldermummy, it definitely helps to hear stories like yours.

I've used the CBFM for one cycle so far but hubby and I were both ill with colds and coughs so I am hoping that that was a factor. I'm also hoping that the reason we haven't conceived in previous months is because we've misjudged the timings and the CBFM will take the guesswork out of when I'm ovulating.

Hope you have a very healthy and happy pregnancy. Wishing you all the best.

I was 36 when we decided to ttc our first child, we fell in our third month of trying and our LO is now 14 weeks old, born when I was 37 & 6 months!!

Honestly I would recommend the CBFM without hesitation, I am certain it got us our BFP, we would never have been lucky enough to BD at the right time without it!

Here's hoping it doesn't take you long, good luck xx

Hi Guys,
I am 38 and will be 39 in March.
I used the ovulation kit that you mentioned and caught on the first attempt.

I mean literally sex twice and that was it!
My husband is 40 so we are not spring chickens! I am just 4 weeks pregnant and no idea whats going on : )

I'd recommend the kit and if anyone lives in London Id be happy to lend mine. I even have two months supplies of the strips, which I hope to not need for awhile!

Good Luck and think SWIM!

Hiya,

I had a miscarriage at 34 and became completely consumed with wanting to get pregnant again.  A year later i took clomid for 12 months and still nothing.  We then tried for another 6 months and due to how stressful i found it i gave up.  I spent my money on a pair of new boobs and went on 3 holidays abroad and bugger me i fell pregnant naturally.  I had my first baby at 38.  I had a brilliant pregnancy and my baby arrived 54 minutes after arriving at the hospital with no pain relief or stitches.  I feel complete and extremely lucky to have my baby so am not going to try for anymore.
