Hi all,

Hope you are all well and enjoying mummyhood

I am getting pressure from my mum to start weaning Tyler but I feel he is too young yet at only 14 weeks old. He is sleeping thru at night but im finding he takes his afternoon bottle in dribs and drabs and can take over an hour to get him to finish his bottle.

Anyone else thinking about starting to wean in a couple of weeks?? xx

I started at 15 weeks. Logan was taking 56oz of milk a day and then waking up 2 or 3 times in the night! He was putting weight on excessively and urinating excessively due to the amount of milk he was drinking!

Don't feel pressured in to doing it - do it when you feel he is ready!! If he is sleeping through the night quite happily then he probably isn't ready yet. But you do what you think is best!

I started Nyla on purees cos she didn't seem interested in milk alone and used to stare intently at us when we were eating. She now loves pear, carrot, parsnip purees, potato and porridge. Gonna try apples and pears later this week.

I would say def do what you feel is right. Why not get some heinz banana sunrise which comes highly recommended and see what happens, or baby rice but Nyla didn't like it much? I will be trying this too!

Thanks snugglenush,

I dont think he is ready for it yet, he sleeps great at night thankfully!! His fist and fingers are constantly in his mouth so im thinking teething mite be affecting his feeding as well!!

Oh well, I will probably have a cupboard full of baby food jars by the time he's ready for weaning as my mum keeps buying him stuff lol....parents!!

xx

my mum is the same. She has a stock of pouches at her house for him. Only done fresh puree so far. I also recommend hipp organic breakfasts for stage 1. Logan loves the banana and peach one. You just add water x

Ive been thinking about it a lot recently but dont think C is ready yet, she doesnt sleep all night but never did. Im just going to wait and see, i havent really planned when im going to start.xx

Dont let anyone push you into it, do what you think best for baby. You never know in the next week he might all of a sudden need food, my sil weaned for the same reasons as snuggs as baby was just taking so much milk, it really helped.xx

Dexter is 14 weeks also and i've been thinking about it quite a bit too. I don't think he's quite ready yet but he certainly takes an interest in us eating. I've got an Annabel Karmel book which has a time frame of a few weeks gradually introducing more and more varied things which I think i'll be using. It's annoying because i'm quite excited about getting going but theres no point if he's not ready. I'm going to give it another 2-3 weeks and see where we are then.

ive started giving my son rice this week hes 14 wks. Dr said to try him as he has started waking in the night after sleeping 8-9 hrs and he has been guzzling 7-8oz in 15 mins if that creating alot of wind and gaining excessive weight.
He has reflux so thought it may help.

Snugglenush- Did you start with rice for a while or go in2 purees sooner?

xx

I did just rice at tea time for about a week (could have been 6 days) then just carrot puree and rice for about 4 days before introducing pear. I've just done it really slowly and now that he has reached 17 weeks speeding it up a little bit but still treading carefully. I kinda just let Logan lead me - alot of people have said that their Los hated baby rice though. Oh I also introduced porridge just before the pear and recently hipp organic banana and peach breakfast.

Thanks will just gv lo rice for now got hv coming round nxt week to talk about weaning as she knows ive started.

Lo seems to love rice coz it tastes like his milk spose. I've got GF guide to weaning says to gv rice in the mrn for a few days thn rice in mrn following pear puree in the afternoon.
Ive given lo 2 tiny spoons of baby rice at lunchtime and again now he loves it.
Ive prepared some pear puree in ice cubes and put in a tupperware box that i sterilised with tablets. Also some carrot. My mum said just to do rice for a few weeks.

I thought M was ready for weaning a couple of weeks ago but I clearly read all the signs wrong! She hated the rice and at first just kept crying. I tried with pureed veg etc but she just kept laughing and spitting it all out with her tongue so she still has the reflex and is generally not ready! So for now I have stopped as she is happy enough with her milk and most nights sleeps 11-12 hours. Although I find BLW quite bizarre I think this may be the route I will have to go down as she just doesnt want to know right now, which is fine x

Weaning is constantly on my mind! Liv is nearly 15 weeks now - I know she's not ready for it but it's such a confusing topic I am already thinking about how best to go about it. Plus breast feeding is starting to get me down so being able to hand over feeding duties to hubby will be such a relief!!

I'm thinking of getting one of those special baby steamer things - does anyone have one?

moonsandstars- ive got the beabe baby cook it seems really good. Steams the food quickly and u use the cooling juice to puree so all the nutrients are in there.

After the week we've had i'm now debating whether to start sooner. For the last week or so Dexter has had quite a lot of dirty nappies, most being explosive. For the last few days every nappy has been dirty, albeit small amounts so i'm going through tonnes of nappies! I called the hv because I was worried about him getting dehydrated even though its not diarrhea (sp). She suggested giving him water in between his feeds but don't they recommend that for constipation?? Now wondering if introducing solids might sort it out a bit? :?
