just wondering how people are finding their health visitors?

mine seems to just go on about the benefits of breastfeeding all the time. i am breastfeeding and every time i have a question or make a comment about it she completely dismisses any concerns i have and just goes on about how great it is. i know the benefits thank you!

I had to give LO a bottle of formula yesterday as i hadn't managed to express very much and had no milk in the evening. i'm afraid that if i tell the HV this she will give me a massive lecture and make me feel like a failure.

i just feel that she isn't very supportive- my little boy lost a lot of his birth weight and i managed to get it back within two weeks but the following week he only gained 4oz which she told me wasn't really good enough, it just made me feel like i'd done something wrong :\(

hi G/C from due in June! just wanted to say that my sister bfed for 6 weeks and it was so hard for her, she really did struggle, she started to express as she was so drained from it all so her parnter could help out with the feeds, she also experienced pressure from healt visitor to carry on, and i would say just go at your own pace, if you feel like you cant carry on bfeeding then dont pressure yourself to, its not fair on you or baby, you've given the baby the best start in life but who says you have to keep up with it, formuals are just as good these days! im only 9 weeks and although its early days im wondering whether to bfeed or not! x

Hi Anna,

Sadley i have experianced the same my HV is constantly pushing BF down my neck. LO is 5 weeks and am still exclusively BF. I have found it tiring and a much harder than i expected. I have found the only way i can manage is on a day to day basis as thankfully bad days are usually followed by good ones and convince me i CAN carry on.
When ever i have asked for practical advice i always get wishy washy non answers. I asked about amount oin oz i should be giving when expressing. she jus said oh every baby is different. er thanks for that lol.

Aslong as you lo weight is following the centile line on graph i was told not to worry 4 0z for a3rd week weight gain is the same as my lo and no one seemed conerned.

Keep at it if you can, it is worth it but remember ultimatley if it is causing you that much upset, tiredness then happy mum = happy baby so do what you feel is best. every day is a bonus the way i see it

xx

I also found in middle of night after feed was the best time to express and always get the most milk then xx
