Is it possibel that a 19 week old baby can have tantrums? I think so, at least Isabelle is. We have been putting her to bed between 6.30-7.30 for ages, but this last week has become a complete nightmare. As soon as you leave the room she will start crying, you go back in the room or bring her downstairs she stops and starts smiling. We have tried leaving her to cry, but this gets louder and louder with her kicking her legs up and down and really screaming. Tonight this went on for 2 hours, last night she just wanted to watch the telly. I would just like to say this is not because she is used to watching the tv, lol.
Any ideas of what to do? We have tried bathing her b4 bedtime and giving her a massage but this does not seem to relax her.

Hi Mary,

i know this may sound stupid but have you changed the order you are doing things at all? Hubby had a nightmare to get chloe to sleep end of last week when i started work and turned out he was not doing things in the order i have always done them with chloe and so she was upset by the change. i've since re-taught him and it is now working as a dream cos she knows what is happening next.

sorry if this is no help at all!!! and yes they can have tantrums - chloe certainly does!

Aimee has started to have a little tantrum if she drops a toy on the floor or a take her away from her gym to do something, stroppy strop!!

Hi Mary,
Sorry to hear she is being a monkey!
A few things spring to mind, could be a growth spurt, Henry always tends to be a sod going to bed during a growth spurt, she could be ready for solids...therefore not full or satisfied when you put her to bed (don't know if you have weaned her yet?)
Alternatively, it could be a sign that you need to bring her bedtime forward a bit, perhaps she is getting a bit over tired and over stimulated...I know you've stuck to the same time for ages, but babies change, particularly as they become more interactive and busy in the day!

Thanks all for replies. The last 2 nights have been better but I have had to give an extra feed as she has woken up both nights. Last night she took a 6oz bottle at 01.30. As far as I know we have not changed our routine. I use the Johnson's bedtime cream after her baths and give her a gentle massage.
We are beginning to think maybe she needs to start some weaning. We tried to up her bottles to 7ozs during the day but the extra 0z was making her sick. We tried a tiny bit of baby rice the other night, but I think Isabelle wore more of it than what she actually took. Is this normal at the start?

oh bless. does sound like maybe she is ready! oh how exciting! i'm just waiting for tesco to deliver my order and then i am going to try chloe with some rice!!!!

in terms of wearing - i think from what i have read - yep they do tend to wear more than they take in!!

Just jumping on the temper tantrum band wagon- i'm so pleased to hear other people saying about their LO's being like this because I was beginning to worry about Ellie!
The baby is 19 weeks old-a baby- yet she pouts, takes her dummy out of her mouth, looks at whoever is with her then launches it onto the floor...I dread the toddler stage I really do! xx
