hi ladies - just wondering what you all do , i really dread the hour before his bed as he is so tired that he is crying - but i dont want to put him in his activity centre or gym as it will only make him more tired so end up just walking around waiting for 6 so we can start the bath ! So anyone have any ideas on how to make that hour calmer for us both ? Thanks guys xx

Hi,
just wanted to say you're not alone, we call it the grumping hour as nothing makes him happy and he just whinges until bathtime. I try to disract him with walking and singing and looking at things (usually the cats make him smile). Hope someone has something more constructive to add and I'll be watching for tips too!

We (well not all of us just the two babies lol) have naked time i find this settles him a bit... i just make the lounge warm and strip them both down and we have about half an hr with no clothes before they go up for a bath at 6ish x

I tend to put Caleb in the bath at around 5>45, then he has his massage, then we both put our pyjamas on and i just sit with him until he has his last bottle at around 6.45-7, and we cuddle. He whinges less and I love our designated cuddle time! x

we dnaked time too. Only for about 15 mins though. Before that we sit and help J do hisw homework which is usually reading (she eats the pages lol) then we pick a babier book for her & Tyler. If she is too grumpy for this i usually put her under her gym or in her chair and let her watch telly. Sounds awful but we have te baby TV channel which is fab! xx

I try to get Erin to have a 30 minute nap sometime between 5 and 6 - if she doesn't it's usually as she's already overtired and then bedtime settling can be difficult. Today was a good day (maybe because of swimming in the morning) she had a 30 min nap pre-swimming, 30 mins post-swimming, 2 hours in the afternoon, 30 minutes 5.30-6pm, into bed 6.45pm and should sleep until 7.30am with a dreamfeed.

We are the total opposite usually. The more stimulation Freya gets the less hassle we have at bedtime. We used to keep it all calm, she would watch tv and have cuddles with Daddy before bath at 6 and bottle/bed straight after the one day she decided this was not her idea of fun and we had to move bedtime bacck to 7pm and keep things loud etc right up until bedtime1
Sorry for the ramble just thought i would give you our opposite side to things xx

Hey, my little one sleeps for about 2 hours in the afternoon until around 4.30-5 depending on when she was fed, she then stays awake until her bedtime bottle, and we do lots of activities, on the playmat, bouncer on our knees etc, this is also her time for cuddles with dad, then bottle about 7-8ish, i noticeably calm things down when the bottle comes out, low light and quiet, so she knows its time for bed xx

 The Witching Hour!

It was a nightmare with my dd.. i remember it well!

Now i have the 2 of them ds sort of just gets plonked from room to room while we sort everything out so he doesn't really get a chance to be grumpy! He has tea anywhere between 4.30-5pm then he will sit in his bouncy chair while we wash up etc, then have naked time or we walk the dogs. Because we have a 2 year old the hour goes so fast as she demands constant attention so we dont really notice the witching hour with him!

With dd i remember counting down the minutes  We use to take her for a walk most evenings but not in the pram, we would just hold her so she didn't fall to sleep  xx

Love My Babys Very Muchly!

Leo isn't generally particualrly grumpy at this time! He goes to bed at 9 and his routine starts about 8pm. He has a nap at 7pm in his cot. up again at 7.30 for a feed. Then from 8 we do a bit of naked time, bath, massage, feed, story. He loves being in the big bath with me so that generally takes a good 20 mins or so! x

Aw baby gaffer im so pleased to read your reply because i have been worrying about Alana going to bed so late, she usually falls to sleep at around 9pm but with it being later Iv found it hard to have a designated bedtime but I guess this is it.

If alana is grumpy in the evening i sit her or lay her in her cot with her music box on and no clothes on and she loves having a little play and kick around. I also bath her earlier as she will stay in the bath for ages so she generally cheers up. Good luck with trying some of the ideas out, hope it helps X
