Hi ladies,

Could really do with some new mummys view on my dilemma!

I had to have an epeasitomy (sp) given birth to dylan 9 days ago. i had tons of stiches and these have now got infected! As the infection is so bad i have to take really strong anti botics the (only ones i can take).... now here the thing the anti botics i have got are not really recommrnded for breatfeeding, as it can really unsettle baby and give him and bad stomach...

The midwife said to still breastfeed and see how he is, but i am worried that he already is really restlesss with the heat and giving him an upset stomach can not be worth breastfeeding!

I am unsure what to do, i really will feel guilty not breatfeeding him as we have done really well.... but i don't want to make him poorly.

What do you think?? i formula really that bad????!!!

Thanks

what a hard situation to be in.

how long is the course for? You could express while on them to keep your supply up whilst giving him formula then try to introduce him back to the breast after your course has finished. It might cause confusion for him at first but its not impossible if you are on a short course.

Or you could ask MW/Dr if there is a different anti bi you could try that might not be as strong. It may mean your infection could take longer to clear but might not upset Dylans tummy as much.

Trust your instincts and do whatever is right for you both. An unhappy mummy makes an unhappy baby. and no formula is not that bad at all. Emily is on Aptimal after I had to give up BF her after a week and shes doing fine.

Hope your stitches heal soon hun xxxx

aww thanks hun. the course is only is only for a week. I have been on every other anti botics under the sun and nothing will shift the infection. I think i might try and express, fingers crossed he still latches on!!! xxxx
