Hi All,
My little boy is 2 weeks and 4 days old and was delivered by forceps. For about the last week he has really suffered with the sniffles and when we took him to the Dr's he listened to his chest and said there was no problems and just to get him some nose drops.
We've done this and although they seem to help a little they certainly havent resolved the problem and it seems to be getting worse, he is now gagging on it mainly at night. We have tried propping the end of his cot up but perhaps it needs propping up further?
Its really upsetting to see my LO like this as u feel a bit helpless and he only seems better when he's propped up asleep on me, but he cant stay like this all night as i need to sleep too.
Has anyone elses LO's had this, do you have any advice?

hey - sorry i dont have a solution but just wanted to say that Jayden has also had snuffles for the last 10 days or so. i assumed for us it was caused by the AC unit we bought when it was boiling hot
it's horrible seeing them ill isn't it

all i can suggest is keeping him wrapped up and dont allow him to be in a draft at all. I know we aren't supposed to let babies get too hot but i am currently keeping Jayden wrapped up snuggly (with a vest to keep his chest warm) as i'm worried about it getting any worse. it has actually got a lot better (he had a few days where he couldn't feed much as he couldnt breathe through his nose) so i'm sure it will for you too soon

Harry caught snuffles of his big bro wen he was 5 days old and it took him awhile to get over it. I have a nasal aspirator thingy that u can clear some of the gunk out with and that seemed to ease it for him if i did it b4 bedtime. xx

Hi Karval do a menthol plug in which we find helps boots do them, you can have them on through the night & isn't a medication so that should help keep his nose unblocked hope he feels better soon xo

hey, we have snuffles here too! i give saline drops in her nose when needed. my little one's snuffles are worse at night, the drops do seem to clear her nose so i make sure i use them before a feed. I also have her moses basket mattress on a slant, with towels under the head so that she isn't lying flat. im convinced the sunffles have been waking her as well, and that without them, she may sleep a bit longer... fingers crossed! i went to the doc to get her checked out, he was happy that her chest was clear etc and just said to carry on with the drops before a feed and when needed xx

Hi ilove g/c from BIM x

My lo had a cold at about 2 weeks old too, was so hard watching her struggle to clear the mucus - I felt so bad exposing her to germs so early!!! lol.

Saline drops were great for us, used them alot, and also rather than prop the moses basket up we placed a rolled sheet under the mattress to give a bit of height - it did seem to help. During the day she slept in her rocker which is also a bit tilted .

I did try to grap the snot with one of the nasal aspirators but didn't find it very helpful. It really was a case of trying to make her as comfy as possible and just ensuring she fed ok and after a week or so she was ok again xx

Thanks ladies, the gunk seems to be right at the back of his nose so dont think an aspirator will help.
He's so fed up and grumpy bless him and he isnt sleeping much so i'm now tired too and feeling teary again, really hope he improves soon x
