Hi, we're weaning early at 5 months just now on paediatrician advice due to reflux, so I'm doing purees, but as soon as she is 6 months I plan to move more towards BLW. She is very interested in grabbing our food and I think she has real issues with passively feeding from a bottle or a spoon because it's been so sore for her in the past, wee scone. She is taking from a spoon but she'd rather do it herself!

tbh im too scared too but i think sammy will rly enjoy it....my HV isnt keen on BLW
We were weaning sammy just gone 4 months but he developed a rly bad tummy dodgey poos about 7 times a day. We tried dif things but eventually stopped weaning and with in 2 days he was fine. Hes eating alot more milk now as hes rly hungry but im gonna hold off till after xmas...if i need too ill do baby rice tho.
Ive got all the pureed veggies and fruits in the freezer ready but as with the boys, i end up moving quite swiftly onto lumps...
Id be interested to see the advisce given tho as i dont know anyone whos done BLW (why they change things lol)

I was willing to give it a shot but Aiyana is just a very hungry baby. Hungry baby milk doesnt mix with her very well and so she was having 7 8oz bottles a day. We started on baby rice and purees at 17 weeks and she's much happier now on 4/5 bottles of 6oz. Once she is 6 months i think i'll combine the puree and baby led methods.

HI, I tried early weaning with Josh at just gone 17 weeks on HV advice as he takes so little milk. took rice and bit pf puree veg fine for first week - then the novelty wore off and he wasn't opening his mouth for food. so to avoid aversion to this as well, we've stopped and I plan to wait for him to grab my food hoepfully about 6 months and go baby led, with a bit of spoon feeding if he'll let me. I too like tennison think alot of it is control issues for josh. I'm not expecting much tho to be honest as he's barely interested in milk let alone solids! Just been reading many babies don't really start eating solids till 9 months +

Gorgeous baby Josh born 14th July 2010 - non responsive silent reflux leading to a bottle/feeding aversion......

I did BLW with my DD, now 3yrs old, and LOVED it. Desperate to get to 6months with DS before weaning now as would love to do it again!
It's soooo easy, no pureeing/mashing-it's great if you're lazy like me-lol!
We started with par boiled veg like carrot batons/sweet potato etc and fruit like banana and apple that she could hold easily. It seems like nothing is going in at first but there was soon evidence in her nappies! We did spoon feed things like yoghurt and weetabix but everything else was finger foods, and being 6months before we started meant she was less restricted on what she could eat e.g could have bread, meat etc.
DS is over 18lbs at 18weeks, so a much bigger boy than my DD was but i'm still hoping to hold off till near 6months to do BLW i'm such a fan!

I'm going to hold off and do BLW I think, Lo is over 5 months now so not long to go, and he isnt looking for food so I am going to hold off as long as possible. I have a hage fear of choking though so god knows what I will be like when he is chomping away on something.
I am excited about this stage though, I just need to invest in some bibs with sleeves as it's probably going to be messy! x
