Hi Ladies, 39 weeks today and consultant requested a sweep to help go natural rather than Induced as booked in next Tues 17th For DDay Inducement. OMG it was the worse thing I have ever experienced, I was actually crying with the pain, to make it worse, cervix was closed and still 3/5 engaged so Midwife(who was lovely) said she had basically forced me open...sorry, and thats y it hurt so so much.
She said I may have a show in next 2 dayys, but literally 1/2 hr later I had brown blood and since then have had gloopy Brown discharge...Just to check with you.....is this normal....got bad period pains now and backache?
Just checking this is what is supposed to happen as my first and not sure. She did say 39 weeks was tad early for sweep and it may not dow much which I knew really, so now we just wait and see. Thanks xxx

All sounds normal and promising that's it's done something! Quite normal for cervix to still be closed at 39 weeks and I can imagine it must have hurt a lot! My mw wouldn't do one at all when my cervix was closed last time, she was worried it would be too painful!

Hope you feel less sore now and that things get moving for you. xx

thanks lovelies, it was far from pleasant, as I was crying she kept telling me I was brave ha ha, M/w said she is renowned for thorough Sweep and I asked if her nickname was the 'Sister Of no Mercy Sweeper' she laughed.
Just wanted to check all seemed as It should, now I think This lil lady wants to stay in till Induction/DD day.... xx

Ouch! I have to say I've found sweeps painful but never actually cried in pain in one, she must have been pretty thorough! But my mw used to say the more it hurts the more likely it is to work, heres hoping the pain was worth it!

I had a similar experience with my DD, on my due date I had a consultant appointment. He did an internal to see if anything was happening and I was crying out in pain too. He had said that my cervix was too high and far back to sweep me. It was excruciating and I had some brown discharge and aches after. I went into labour 4 days later and the midwife swept me when I was 1cm and it didn't hurt at all, I was actually giggling as it tickled. I told her about the painful one four days before and she said that he probably had done a sweep but didn't want to get my hopes up!

So it took me four days but it did help. You've still got time to start on your own - best of luck! X
