Had my scan - My baby is due in Jul 2012

I had my scan yesterday and I've got mixed feelings of joy and fear. Fear because I'm 6 weeks and she measures me at 5 weeks. Im certain of my dates. This happened last time and the baby just wasn't growing but this time the little one had a strong heartbeat. She said she would normally discharge after that but due to all the issues last time she is re scanning me in 3 weeks. She seemed very happy with everything. What do you think? Am I worrying for nothing? Xx

I'm sure everything will be just fine Katie, like you said baby has a good strong heartbeat. When we had our scan at 7 wks they told us then they couldn't give an accurate date hence the 12 wk dating scan. I had a scan at 5 wks and all we saw was gestational sac & yolk sac it was too early for a heartbeat but then we had another scan at 7 weeks and saw it. I'd say your more than 5 if they saw hb! What was measurement if baby? At 7 wks mine was 11.74mm. Try and relax and enjoy! X

Thanks for replying Abi. The baby was 2mm so very very tiny. I can't wait to go back in 3 weeks time. I'm. Really hoping he/ she will have grown. How far along are you? Xx

Hi Katie,

I always thought that you wouldn't hear the heartbeat until at least 6-7 weeks so maybe you are further than she thought but I am no expert!!

Hearing the heartbeat is such a good sign I believe. I am sure she wouldn't have seemed so happy with you if there was something concerning her and if there was I am sure she would want you to come back sooner.

Keeping fingers crossed that your little beany is just a bit teeny and that you'll be reassured in 3 weeks time.

Am so pleased you saw the heartbeat - it's just so exciting! I remember hearing my ds' heartbeat at 10 weeks on the doppler the midwife had - it's just a wonderful experience

Am sure the next scan will be just as wonderful!

Thanks girls. I've calmed down a bit now. Really can't wait for the next scan. I will be wishing the next 3 weeks away. Xx

Katie I'm just over 9 weeks now & can't wait for my scan on 14 dec, wishing my life away at the moment but after 3 long yrs ttc & 2 mc's this Yr it's hard to be positive & just want to get to the next milestone and now!! I'm not patient at the best of times x

My next scan is on the 14th December too!! I know what you mean about the long and bumpy journey. It's been 4 years for us with 2 failed ivf's a natural surprise bfp that ended in miscarriage with D&C in September and now another wonderful natural surprise. Hoping the 14th is a very happy day for us. Xx

hi ya,

just wanted to say that i had an early scan and was approx 5weeks 6 days and baby measured 1.9mm and we saw a heartbeat, i was then scanned on NHS just 48 hours later and it was 5.7mm so it had tripled in size! i was amazed at how much bigger it looked on the screen in just 2 days so i am sure when you go back in 3 weeks you will see a massive difference!

It's great I saw hb which is so very positive. I don't really know anything abt measurements but sounds like growthspurts with our little beans can happen over a day or so so sure you still see loads more in 3 weeks. Good luck x x

The lady that scanned me said that they grow about 1mm each day so I'm hoping to see a big difference in 3 weeks time. I can't wait. Not been this excited since being a kid at Christmas. Xx
