Any Older Mums?

Hi everyone, and congratulations!

I am 8 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child - came as a bit of surprise to us and I still can't really believe it, it just doesn't seem real yet. So I thought joining in the chat here might help it all feel a bit more real!

Are there any other older mums out there? I'm 38 now, and will just have turned 39 when I have this little one. I was really relaxed and positive with my other two pregnancies, but this time I'm feeling worried and a bit scared. Anyone else feeling the same way because they're in the 'older mum' category too?

Best wishes everyone, look forward to getting to know you x

Welcome! I am almost 8 weeks and tomorrow I turn 39!!!! This is my second baby. Sam is 14 months. I'm not too anxious though. Last time all was Ok. Hopefully my blood tests will all be good with no risks of Downs. X

Hiya, I think I can beat you! This is my second pregnancy - I have a gorgeous nearly 4 year old who arrived when I was 37, and I'm now 42! (Hence my user name!) I saw my midwife for my booking appointment yesterday, and my risk is 1 : 65 at the moment. I had the nuchal scan with DS, which I had to pay for, but it's now available on the NHS is my area, so will be going ahead with that, and the blood tests.

It's frightening to think though, that a couple of the girls I was at school with are now grandmothers. I know they started early, but hey!

Congratulations!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for your replies. It's nice to know there's other older mums out there!

MustbeMad - congratulations firstly! Are you going to have CVS or amnio? My doctor said that I will be offered CVS straight away, irrespective of blood test results because of my age, so since then I've been trying to weight up whether I'm going to go for diagnostic tests or not. I didn't have any tests of any kind with my first 2 but this time round I think I should have them, and hope for the best and that I don't find the waiting for results too stressful. Is the 1:65 just taken off the chart against your age?

Hope everyone is feeling good x

Hiya Smilesuk3.

I'm going to have the combined test - Nuchal Scan and Blood tests - and then apparently, in my area, if anything comes up you are contacted within 3 days, and offered CVS at Kings in London. The 1 : 65 is just against the chart, but my family history is good, and my husband is 9 years younger than me, so I look on that as positive! Well I'VE got to be. DH is very much a glass half empty type.

I had the nuchal scan with my son, and had to have it done privately up in Harley Street, but at least I had the blood test results before I left, and that was fine. I seem to remember they brought in the nuchal scan under the NHS in my area about 10 days after the 2 week window there is for this scan. Hmph!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. As I said I'm thinking positively, and this little one will be just as healthy, happy (and exhausting) as DS.

I too am glad there are other older mums out there! Just found out I'm 3-4 wks pg at 40 (2nd pg & 1mmc @ 6wks) so a little nervous and excited at the same time.

Hope everything goes well Smilesuk3 and I'll following in your footsteps very soon!
